How low is your vitamin D?

And how low B12

Vitamin D

GP will only prescribe to bring levels to 50nmol.

But improving to around 80nmol or 100nmol may be better

Once you Improve level, very likely you may need on going maintenance dose to keep it there.

Test twice yearly via vitamindtest.org.uk

Vitamin D mouth spray by Better You is very effective as it avoids poor gut function. There’s a version made that also contains vitamin K2 Mk7

It’s trial and error what dose we need, with hashimoto’s we frequently need higher dose than average

Government recommends everyone supplement October to April

If B12 and/or folate are low

Supplementing a good quality daily vitamin B complex, one with folate in not folic acid may be beneficial.

B vitamins best taken in the morning after breakfast

Igennus Super B complex are nice small tablets. Often only need one tablet per day, not two. Certainly only start with one tablet per day after breakfast. Retesting levels in 6-8 weeks

Or Thorne Basic B or jarrow B-right are other options that contain folate, but both are large capsules

If you are taking vitamin B complex, or any supplements containing biotin, remember to stop these 7 days before any blood tests, as biotin can falsely affect test results

Low vitamin D and low B vitamins may be linked as explained here

In YouTube video...vitamin D at 40ng/ml (USA units) is equal to 100nmol (UK units)

What is your Vit D level? You need to make sure you take enough so that it will raise your level. The Vit D Council /Vit D Society recommends 100-150nmol/L. You need to retest 3 months after starting to supplement to check new level and adjust dose if necessary.

Excellent D3, oil based for good absorption, only 2 ingredients - D3 and extra virgin olive oil - very reasonably priced - Doctor's Best softgels.

If you have Hashi's you might prefer an oral spray such as BetterYou but it does have quite a few excipients and would work out more expensive. However, softgels do work well for some Hashi's patients.

Don't forget D3's important cofactors - magnesium and Vit K2-mk7.

B12 - what is your level? You may find a B Complex enough. You need B Complex as an important companion supplement when taking B12, but unless your B12 level is very low you may not need a separate B12.

Good B Complex are Thorne Basic B or Igennus Super B.

I've been using Biocare liquid B12 drops for several years and after taking it my tests showed much better B12 levels. They offer B12 on its own or with folate. 5 drops a day in water.

Same here, the Biocare drops work well for me too. I used to have sublinguals as they had a very immediate energising effect, but that would often wear off by the afternoon.
