Lately when I run my heart rate goes high Medium för a 5k is 171 even when I really try to take it slowly. Resting hr is 63.Could it be that I'm taking too much meds or not enough? Am taking 100t4+15t3

Personal anecdote : All the following can raise my heart rate - low iron and/or ferritin (iron stores), low potassium, low magnesium, high blood sugar.
I've stopped running now due to spine issues but I ran about 5 times per week for 30 years. I've been on 125 micrograms Eutroxig throughout that time and have thyroid function results comparable with yours. I would push my HR to 180 maximum and my resting HR was between 45-55. The questions to ask are as follows:-
" is your HR reading taken immediately after stopping the run? This gives you an indication of your cardiac output capacity. What about your recovery time? and what is your resting heart rate? " If your resting HR is low or normal e.g. between 50-60 then I'd say you are ok.
I think the resting HR range can be higher than 50-60 whilst still ok. I've always believed 60-90 to be normal but the following link states a slightly higher upper figure. Its also useful for HR after exercise and age dependence
I'm exactly the same. Running fast or up hill my heart rate can go as high as 190! So I've slowed things right down & try to keep it sub 170. I figure a slow run is better than no run. I've mentioned it to my gp and endo but they're don't seem that bothered. Resting hr 58 & recent blood tests don't suggest I'm over medicated. I've cut out caffeine.
There seem to be a lot of people who are other wise healthy but for some reason had high hr during exercise and poor recovery. Reducing caffeine did the trick for them. I assume this is down to everyone being individuals and some do not metabolise coffee very well.
So its worth to try cutting out caffeine and see how it affects in the long run.
Very similar happened to me. I saw a cardiologist & wore a heart rate monitor for 24 hours. All ok, thankfully!
I agree with humanbean- my heart rate is not as elevated when key vitamins are optimal. For me, I prefer spinning when my heart rate goes through periods of being elevated, as it’s easier to go down a couple of gears to lower it.
Hi Clara9 , I've been thinking the same thing! I've been running for the past 10 years, usually able to comfortably run 10k without stopping and no issue with high heart rate. But in the past few months, I've only been able to run about 5k (with many stops!) and my heart rate is between 180-210 for at least half of the run! I love running but not feeling great afterwards so think I need to take a break for a while. My resting heart rate used to be in the 50s but now it's more in the 60s.
I'm being investigated for POTS and it's possible this is increasing my heart rate. I hadn't thought it might be an issue with thyroid or vitamin levels so keen to see the responses here.
Hi, my heart rate is very different now when running and varies day to day, I wear a watch that measures it regularly. I’ll be running slowly on the flat and it goes up to 170s, complete loss of fitness. I run on alternate days now to give my system a break. It seems to be better when I’ve just eaten well, as though that has something to do with it(?). It has to be said that I am under medicated, and working my way up the dosage of levothyroxine.
I am the same. I am in my 60s and do the Parkrun every week. I try to run at a fairly constant rate. I am not a runner = I only took this up about 2 years ago. My resting heart rate, according to my watch, is under 60 but my average heart run over the 5 km is usually about 168 with a max of 188.
I was told the way of working out the max rate described above was only rough and everyone is different.
