Hi, I’ve just had a css as ll from my gp to say blood tests show that my liver ALT levels are concerning at 109, he said it was last checked in 2013 and was 39. He asked if I was taking anything, and I reminded him I take thyroid a, he said it could be that causing the high levels as I wasn’t taking that in 2013, and none of my other levels are abnormal. Tbh I am not even sure what was tested, this was in advance of having a general diabetic check up next week? I asked if taking b complex with bioten could have played a part or my bit d,he said he wasn’t sure and I should not take them until I have retested in 4-6 weeks. I feel rubbing when I don’t take my Vitamins. Does anyone have any advice? Should I be concerned or is it likely to be from my vitamins?

High liver blood results
I can tell you this can fluctuate - and you need to know the range. Meds can definitely affect this result,
My result Dec 2020 was 27 (0 to 39)
Nov 2015 53 (0 to 52) - so, over range, and has improved
I think the diabetic clinic will do more testing ? ultrasound (my daughter is type 1 diabetic) and has been through this.
Sorry I can't be more help.
I have found that my ALT fluctuates a lot. Mine has been as low as 14 and as high as 42 (which was well over the range). The next result after the 42 my ALT was back to being 18.
The only thing that I can tell you is that I let my eating habits get out of hand for a few months (I ate too much sugar and carbs generally) before getting the over the range result. It persuaded me to get my act together and cut down on my sugar and carbs again. Whether this was coincidence or not, I will never know.

Thank you, that’s really helpful. I too have let my eating habits slip and have been having lots of sugar and carbs again, so fingers x that it what it is...... hopefully this will kick my butt into gear to try and be more mindful x
Same thing happened to me before Christmas. I've had fatty liver twice before, but never raised enzymes. I was also eating poorly. I have been on a low carb diet since and also asked to have my meds reduced. Have had to go back up to 75mcg T4 and likely will need to up my T3 to 5mcg (am on 4mcg right now and was on 6mcg before Christmas).
Your raised ALT is likely due to fatty liver. An ultrasound or a fibroscan will be able to tell you for sure. Cutting the carbs and eating lots of veggies and healthy fats can turn it around pretty quickly. If you can handle a ketogenic diet (which can be achieved while eating veggies), you will be able to get rid of most of the fat in 2 to 4 weeks. Exercise is also important. I've been exercising twice a day since I got my blood results. I have a glucometer (am diabetic) and bought ketone strips for it so I could test and make sure I was going into ketosis (burning fat for energy). My ultrasound 1 month after starting the diet was normal. However, fibroscan can detect fat even when ultrasound does not, so I tend to like to get one of those to make sure everything has been turned around....
Thank you so much, I am glad to hear you are doing better. I will up the veg and cut out the bread. See how that goes on the next test.
Just to update, my results were normal after my last blood test, I stopped all supplements for 6 weeks and retested. Thank you for all your help x
