Not sure where to start, I had Flu, Strep throat infection then chest infection, my heart pulse rate been up and lost weight through a month of not eating, my test results show TSH very low, my Free T 4 33 upper limit is 22 and T 3 is midrange 4.9 upper limit 6 I have been taken off all thyroid meds and pretty worried what's going on as my T3 is not that high, can anyone make any sense out of this, please. anything I should mention to my GP please ?

What dose where you on?

And for how long?

When was the last Thyroid test before this one and what dose back then - any change?

More info needed - what is actual TSH result (is it within range) & all ranges please.

Reduction in Levothyroxine by 25mcg daily or 25mcg twice or 3 times a week perhaps, then another test in approximately 8 weeks time maybe - but do not understand stopping it ??

Isn't this dangerous?

Has a trial of low dose T3 been suggested?

What was your original diagnosis? Do you have Hashimoto's Autoimmune Thyroiditis?

Are you under an Endocrinologist?

Who took you off Thyroid meds after 18 years & what meds precisely?

EDIT:

Having just glanced at your old posts, yes, I see you have Hashimoto's.

Oh dear, this sounds complex.

I think I would chase up the Endocrinologist appointment. I'd phone his/her secretary and ask to be seen asap as my Thyroid meds had been stopped and ask what should I do ?

I have and told I have been to go through my Dr who is waiting for a letter. I feel desperate tonight so going to try and get some sleep. Thank you

Your doctor really shouldn't have stopped altogether. You should have had a dose reduction (maybe 25-50mcg, depending on your dose), unless your dose was only around 25mcg to start with?

Have you ever been tested for antibodies? unexpected changes like this can be pretty typical with hashimotos.

Lots of people are on them for life

People whose thyroids produce too little thyroid hormone don't suddenly discover their thyroid has "got better". Treatment for hypothyroidism, however it was caused, has to be for life.

Levothyroxine or other replacement medication for the treatment of Hypothyroidism is for life.

Hashimoto's Autoimmune Thyroiditis (which is incurable) is a common cause of Hypothyroidism.

With Hashimoto's, tfts (Thyroid Function Tests ) results can fluctuate.

Hi Sharcott, I've been here for six years and never have I seen an FT4 that far (11 units) over the highest range. Are they sure it isn't a lab error of some kind? I would ask to have it redone before stopping entirely. I might even ask for T3 since that number is not that high.

I'm sorry you have been so sick and suggest you take high doses of D3/K2 for a while if it is low as it is one barrier for infections. If you still have chest congestion NAC N acetyl cysteine can be helpful.

Thank you for your help

It did fit with the racing heart and pulse thats why they took me of meds. I had already stopped taking T3

You were taking both levo and T3? Racing heart and pulse can be strictly adrenal reaction to having low thyroid numbers as well as T3 overdose. The adrenals send out cortisol and adrenaline to speed metabolism. This is not good. Are they sure which reaction is the true one?
