Low acid in Hashimoto thyroid

Has anyone heard of Hashimoto patients having low stomach acid and as a result bloating, gas and heartburn.

Feeling tired is also a symptom. I heard that taking Thiamine/ vitamin B1 improves the symptoms. If so, which brand and how much does one take.

Hello, I have hypothyroidism and I tend to have low stomach acid. The only supplements that have worked for me are the ones containing both Betaine HCL + Pepsin. Those two ingredients together really help increase stomach acid and reduce indigestion symptoms. I have tried a few different brands and they all worked fine but the one I am currently taking is Nature’s Life Betaine HCL 648mg and Pepsin 130mg.

I don’t know if there is a specific brand for those ingredients that work better than others but the one thing I would recommend is to avoid tablets and try to opt for capsules or soft gels because they tend to have better absorption and are gentler on the stomach. You need to take 1 to 2 capsules (or more, depending on your needs) before each meal, specifically the ones high in protein (or high in carbohydrates if you are insulin resistant/carb sensitive.)

Maybe try a squeeze of lemon juice or teaspoon of organic apple cider vinegar in water to take with your thyroid meds & just before meals.

I’ve heard a lot of people have had success with this method but it didn’t work for me and others, unfortunately. Certainly less costly than purchasing supplements.

I add apple balsamic to a lot of foods as a condiment, mostly because it tastes nice, though the side effect is my digestion has improved. It seems to work as well as probiotic vinegars.

Thanks I will try to take lemon juice or apple cider vinegar before meals. I take my Armour on empty stomach, might not be a good idea to

Take it then.

It should be taken with water only, though the addition of something acidic in the water should help digestion & absorption of your thyroid hormones.

I had mild indigestion when I swapped to Metavive. Increasing my lemon &/or vinegar intake stopped this within a few days.
