Hi wise heads,
Tell me this. I've been diagnosed with Hashi's 4 years ago. So what happens after thyroid removal? I got it removed Dec last year. Does it spread to other organs?

In theory the antibodies go away and you feel much better, once your meds are optimised. The problem with hashimotoes is that you are given meds to normalise thyroid but given nothing to counteract high antibodies.... Here is an interesting article about it... medpagetoday.com/MeetingCov...

Hi Ziel, that was an interesting article that Galathea posted but so sad to lose an organ that did NOTHING WRONG. I guess in the short term it may have worked but what happens later? Hashimoto's is an autoimmune disorder. Your immune system is centered in the gut and that's what has to be fixed. Your thyroid was the target of the attack but diabetics often have their pancreas as the target, rheumatoid arthritics, their joints, etc. You can't start removing those, can you? I'm not in the medical field so I am just speaking from a common sense point of view. If you can find what is causing the leaky gut which is what functional medics try to do, but conventional medicine rarely tries to do, it seems a much better solution.
Of course, if you had cancer there, it's reasonable to remove it. But there is a chance if a person has one autoimmune condition, they can acquire another one.

I had 2 surgeries because of tumors on thyroid, last one was so big I had problems with swallowing so they decided to remove it. I feel good on NDT so I'm not complaining, was just wondering what will happen with my hashi now
I think it's pretty certain that the anitbodies die away. They don't attack other organs, just the thyroid gland.
