Liquid Levo

Any suggestions would be gratefully received please.

My sister has had a thyroidectomy, Graves, thyroid eye disease and Sjögren’s syndrome, amongst other complications.

She is struggling to obtain Mercury Pharma liquid Levi which is all she is able to tolerate. The pharmacies just keep supplying liquid TEVA which makes her very ill.

She has now had no supply for 2 weeks and we are out of ideas. She just can’t tolerate anything else.

Any ideas please?

Many thanks

Who might answer the phone as Advanz! :-)

Are you saying she has had NO thyroxine at all for 2 weeks?

She is likely to become extremely unwell

Her endocrinologist should be made aware.

I realise that this might not be the best time to try anything else, but has she tried/been offered any of the other liquid levothyroxine products - such as Ten Pharma (BCM) (which might be more readily available from Boots than elsewhere), Wockhardt, or Creo?

Most are listed here:

medicines.org.uk/emc/search...

A complete list is available via the MHRA but the site is more awkward to access - here:

Dear All,

Just wanted to say a big thank you for your replies. So I phoned Mercury Pharma/Advanz who advised me that their Eltroxin is in stock, they gave me the suppliers name. The GP has written another prescription specifying the brand name, and I've sourced an independent pharmacy, not a chain, who have an account with Phoenix wholesalers and who will order the oral solution for my sister. Yesterday, when I posted I just couldn't think straight enough to come up with the idea of phoning the manufacturer. So what a great idea.

And just for the record, my sister has had bouts of taking no thyroxine at all, after rationing the liquid knowing she would run out. She was just preparing to start a different brand closely followed by an anti-histamine to ready herself for the reaction. Reactions to TEVA are hemiplegic migraines and swollen eyes (not good with thryoid eye disease) to name a few.

Just wanted to say thank you. I'm very grateful for this site and the people behind it for the knowledge, wisdom and energy to keep it going.

x
