NDT - ok to eat after?

NDT - a porcine source dessicated from Thailand. Says it doesnt digest in stomach due to sugar coating.

Does it matter if I eat or have a tea (black tea with oat milk) after I take it as it doesnt digest in stomach?

Well, no, because they'd both meet up in the gut, wouldn't they. I think to ensure maximum absorption you should leave at least one hour after taking any type of thyroid hormone before eating or drinking anything other than water. I know there are some on here that would disagree with me, but I prefer to be safe rather than sorry. And, yes, I know you can increase your dose to balance it out, but given the price of NDT, I don't think that's a viable proposition, do you? :)

Wouldn't the tea digest b4 the sugar coated pill?

You can tell I love my tea😬

It might dissolve it, don't know about digest. But, then, the caffeine in the tea would affect the absorption of the hormone.

Hi M33R4,

I take a Thai thyroid supplement. I take 2grains, 1in morning and 1 at night. I now chew them first followed by some water. Usually have a green tea about 15 mins after morning dose. Have had no problems and recent blood tests show very good absorption. I try to leave a gap of >45 mins before breakfast, not always possible, and I have cereal with milk and full fat yogurt. Doesn’t seem to have any negative effect on me.

I have tried taking NDT just in morning but find it suits me to split, otherwise I feel exhausted on waking. I have also tried just swallowing but find chewing it first is better .

In past I have taken a higher dose ( 2&3/4 grain) but have gradually reduced it ,checking bloods and monitoring how I feel.

So far so good. Very happy with my energy levels now.

What time do you take it at night and does it not affect your sleep?

in reply to M33R4

I take it just as I’m getting into bed so my stomach is mostly empty . I don’t think it affects my sleep.

Hello are you sure it’s porcine from the Thailand source & NOT Bovine? I just ordered from a Thailand source & they told me the only thyroid med in Thailand is bovine. If you have porcine can you please inbox me the source? I have been trying to find a porcine that works for me since US changed NP a few months ago. The Bovibe gives me insomnia.

Thanks!

Does sugar dissolve in tea?

So why wouldn't a sugar coating dissolve in the warm wet environment of a stomach - especially if tea is added?

Sugar coatings are not used to make gastro-resistant tablets for very good reasons. :-)

There are many special gastro-resistant coatings for tablets.
