Hello everyone. Well been suffering with fatigue quite a lot lately. Going to get my vitamin levels checked on Thursday via medichecks. Just trying to find good ways of dealing with chronic fatigue.
Managing Fatigue : Hello everyone. Well been... - Thyroid UK
Managing Fatigue
You can pay to have your blood drawn, it cost me about £20 from a private hospital. Last time they directed me to my local hospital and it didn't cost me anything and the person who drew my blood did not seem to know anything about them but they still did the blood draw and I went to my Post Office and paid to have the sample tracked. I had my results within a week so I am hoping this is what happens when I do it this time.

Going to get my vitamin levels checked on Thursday via medichecks.
Are you going to a clinic/hospital for the blood draw or is this a fingerprick test or home venous blood draw?
If this is a fingerprick or home venous blood draw test you would be best not doing it on a Thursday as you will have to post it yourself and there is no guarantee that it will arrive in time before the weekend, even Special Delivery Guarantee by 1pm Next Day has been known to fail (failed for me about 4 times). If posting yourself then do the test and post Monday to Wednesday.
Hello SeasideSusie good afternoon. Luckily I checked on medichecks and there is a medichecks clinic just down the road from where I live off the high street which is very good so going to the medichecks clinic on Thursday to have vitamin levels checked. Chose the 59.00 pounds option to check other things as well including CRP and vitamin A. If you live near where I live in Bromley sorry don’t know if I give exact location where I live but if you are looking for a medichecks clinic in Bromley there are two that I know of where you get your blood drawn there and a doctors report as well for extra 25 .00 pounds. Good thing is I am 4 miles from Princess Royal Hospital Farnborough Common Bromley. I know it’s bad at 32 but have problems with my knee joints and shins so have a 4/8 mph mobility scooter as well as a car lol easier with scooter as you can get anywhere not good in the cold though.
I have a more detailed test which costs me £90 but I need to use it before the end of this month before it expires.
Quite frankly, that doctor's report is unlikely to be worth £25. He'll only be an ordinary GP, not a specialist of any kind, so won't know much about thyroid or nutrients. You'd do better just posting your results on here.
Funny you live in Bromley! I've been under the impression that you were in the US! lol I know Bromley quite well, because I used to live in Beckenham, just down the road. Got married in Bromley registrery office. But, I don't hold it against them! lol
The trouble with these Doctor reports is that they are just reading blood results and are not actually looking at the patient and actually physically examining them. When I saw Dr Skinner he examined me thoroughly and was looking for physical symptoms of thyroid disease. He asked me if I could see a mouse out of the corner of my eye which made me laugh. He loved to joke and smile with people and my husband liked him a lot. He was a lovely man and I still feel sad he is not around to give us all expert help and advice. I was actually devastated when I heard he had died and it wasn't just because we had lost someone who actually understood thyroid disease, it was because he was a lovely person and his family must miss him terribly.
Even if they had the patient in front of them, I doubt they would understand the results any better. They've only had a bog-standard NHS education - which virtually means no education in thyroid whatsoever. Dr Skinner was exceptional.
Do you know what Dr Skinner died off?
Hello fibrofoggy good evening Dr Gordon Skinner died of a Stroke . He was against the NHS and their mistreatment of patients with all thyroid conditions and diseases and with his team paved the way for revolutionary treatment . his team are still carrying on his research into hypothyroidism and other thyroid conditions and diseases and new treatment .
Thank you Den. How tragic for his family, patients and colleagues.
My doctor wasn't mainstream either, he too died, in an accident. I saw him only a few times but he led me to an alternative understanding of healing.
Were you a patient of Dr Skinner?
Hello fibrofoggy yes it must be hard all round for everyone including his family and the many patients who knew him . no I was not a patient of Dr Skinner but wish I was before he died . He was a godsend and helped so many people over his life and his team were and are second to none and very good . I had a really excellent GP practice with excellent doctors years ago . one doctor Dr Ghostling was a very good doctor who used to wear a long black leather trench coat and was into rock music and knew hypothyroidism and cardiovascular medicine well alwas when I was booked to see him always had rock music on and the other doctor Dr Abraham a Jewish Doctor , it was a excellent gp practice in a place in SE London where I grew up always made you feel at ease and asked how you fealt not what a computer told them . I miss those days but we me and mum and dad and brothers moved away from the area .
Hello greygoose good evening good to hear from a fellow former Bromley resident. Not bad area Beckenham and quite a few shops. You are right about the doctors report. But since it’s in with the blood test I suppose it would be a amusing laugh to read 🤓🤣👍
But will be posting results on the forum as soon as I get them. Medichecks blood tests and blood tests from doctors. I am getting my medical records from my gp but have to re register for online access because when I signed up they did not have the medical records online yet 😂 it takes them since 2015 to put medical records online on emis access unbelievable.
Got MRI thyroid scan and MRI scan for brain and kidneys to check adrenal glands to do soon.
I live in a fairly rural area of north Wales. I can manage fingerprick tests well enough as long as they require just 1 x microtainer.
