Adrenal fatigue and weight

Hi, I have hashimoto and I have all the symptoms of adrenal fatigue too except I have gained weight and I am struggling to loose it. Weight gain is a condition of hashi but I believed weight loss is a condition of adrenal fatigue. Does anyone have any thoughts?

Hi sb, I think it can go either way. I've read posts from those who can't gain but I think more have a problem with weight loss. You have to be careful of any type of starvation dieting as it will cause an attempt to conserve energy.

Are your blood levels for FT3 and FT4 in the upper ranges. Try to improve your adrenal function.

It all depends on your cortisol levels, since raised cortisol causes weight gain. But often those with low cortisol and low thyroid still cannot lose weight.

Have you had a cortisol saliva test done? You really do need that in order to decide what treatment is needed. Generally speaking it is said that the adrenals need sorting before the thyroid, although in my case the adrenal problems came along much later.

Are you taking magnesium? That, plus its B6 cofactor are the first thing you need to do, regardless of what comes next.

As low cortisol interferes with thyroid meds it can cause weight gain. My saliva test is below range on every sample, I've put on three stone! Get a saliva stress test rather than guessing.

Would love this test done but cannot get it on the NHS and I cannot afford to do it privately I am not working.

It's even cheaper if you are a member of TPAUK, about £68, I too am on low income with child and partner, all our money not spent on bills and child's shoes goes on my self medicating. If you really can't save up £70 maybe ask people to contribute for a birthday present or something?

Are you talking about Marijuana? LOL I know the oil can be rubbed on the neck to keep thyroid cancer return low. I know you can drink the oil as well to help heal many issues. Have you used it for thyroid issues and has it helped?

LOL! if green tea were that good for adrenals mine would be perfect!

The saliva test costs £75 and is well worth it because low and high cortisol require different treatment. Easy to say when you haven't got £75, of course, but it saves on supplements!

The other test that I found really worthwhile was the hair trace mineral analysis because it really got me focussing on what is truly necessary, rather than what might find a weak spot.

My cortisol is high throughout the day. I cope reasonably well during the daytime, unless something even mildly stressful happens when I react disproportionately. I also tend to spend rather a lot of my day avoiding stress, which means avoiding doing stuff! And then at night I'm just in overdrive.

Think one is cancelling out the other in my case. Low Thyroid and low Cortisol. Weight 3 stone too much.
