Hello, I posted results several months ago and this is my medichecks test before I see NHS endocrinologist at the end of December. I wanted a picture of how things look. I am still feeling weird (joint pain, fog, fatigue) but better than I was before when I shared previous results to forum. I am worried about Vid D and ferritin. I have gone gluten free, been supplementing with Vit D spray with K2 (stopped B12 before test) and cleaned up my diet. Does Vit D take a really long time to become optimal? Ferritin is still high - I am not a drinker and do not eat a particularly high in iron diet. I went to gp after the first round and they saw nothing to be concerned about but the medichecks people have advised further cholesterol, liver and ferritin tests. Can anyone read these and understand them? Many thanks.

* How much Levo are you taking?

* When did you take your last dose before the test?

Your TSH is high considering how high your FT4 is.

**

Active B12: 147 (>37.5)

Folate: 13.11 (>3.89)

(stopped B12 before test)

* Do you take a separate B12 supplement?

Your Active B12 is high enough for you not to need to supplement with a separate B12 supplement. Your Active B12 was 158 when you posted your Medichecks results 8 months ago and there was no suggestion that you needed to take a B12 supplement.

*Do you also take separate B Complex?

* If so did you stop the B Complex 7 days before the test?

You could supplement with a good B Complex a few days a week to maintain your current levels of B12 and folate (eg Thorne Basic B or Igennus Super B maybe 3 days a week)

**

Vit D: 61.3nmol/L

Does Vit D take a really long time to become optimal?

It shouldn't do if you take the right dose of D3 and also take magnesium. I raised my severely deficient level of 15nmol/L to 202nmol/L in 2.5 months.

This result of 61.3nmol/L is lower than the one posted 5 months ago.

* How much D3/K2 do you take daily, in number of sprays?

I believe the BetterYou DLux D3/K2 that says 3,000iu (red pack) requires 3 x sprays to give 3,000iu.

* Are you taking the 5,000iu suggested when the results of your first Medichecks test was posted in this thread:

healthunlocked.com/thyroidu...

* Do you also take magnesium, the body needs this to be able to convert the D3 into it's active form.

**

Ferritin

As this has remained high with each test, I would discuss this with your GP.

Many thanks for your reply. I am currently on 125mcg daily of thyroxine and careful not to take it with other foods which might interfere with absorption. I took my last dose the previous day before the test and took my next dose after the test which was at 9 o’clock in the morning. I did not eat or have tea (only water) before the test. I stopped my Better You B12 spray more than 7 days before the test but continued with my Better you D with K2 and 2 Autommune Institute magnesium capsules. I have been taking 3 sprays of the D with K2 and for a time (for 2 months after the last test a Gp reluctantly prescribed 800 iu tablets of desunin D3, however the Gp in question said I didn’t have much of a deficiency according to his results. Am I spraying it wrong (I spray into side of cheek.?) GP also did checks for ferritin and said there was nothing to be alarmed about and no further tests required. Medichecks have advised a cholesterol check, liver check blood test and iron defiency. I thought I had a problem with my thyroid, it seems that other things are constant. I am going to pay for these other tests but would it be an endocrinologist who deals with these problems. I am not sure if all of this is related to thyroid.

Do you take a B Complex or biotin (B7)?

Hi there, before I bought the Better you spray (B12), I was taking Core active B12 and Active folate - I saw it on a forum. I stopped taking that as I much prefer the sprays. At least I don’t need to worry about B12!

I was taking Core active B12 and Active folate

I don't know what those are and Google isn't bringing up anything. What I am trying to establish is if you were taking a B Complex (a combination of all the B vitamins) or Biotin (B7) and you haven't told me. If you were taking either of them you would have needed to leave it off for 7 days before any blood tests otherwise results can be false if Biotin is used in the testing procedure (most labs do use it) and I'm wondering if this is why you have such a high FT4 which is unusual with your TSH level.

I bought it on amazon - I was trying to attach a photo but can’t figure it out. It says Active B12 + L-MTHF (folate) Lozenges Quatrefolic 800mcg High potency methylfolate (B9) + 1000mcg B12 Methyl B12 and Adenosyl B12 cherry flavour 60 lozenges by Core Med Science. However, I stopped taking that about three months ago and started on the Better You spray. I took advice from the forum and stopped taking Spray well before my test. Could a large spinach smoothie in the mornings (not on the morning of the test though) have skewed my results? I have this every morning for breakfast!!

You can only attach a photo to the first post of a thread. :-(

Suggest you cut the spinach smoothie out

As you have Hashimoto's we often need high dose vitamin D to increase levels. 3 sprays of vitamin D plus K2 mk7 is 3000iu .....for many of us that's a maintenance dose

It's trial and error what dose each person needs.

Frequently with Hashimoto's we need higher dose than average

Suggest on alternate days you add a single spray of the plain vitamin D mouth spray

Are you supplementing magnesium?

Hi there, yes, I am supplementing with 2 autoimmune institute capsules (magnesium) per day. Your post was really interesting to me - especially the section on bone pain. There have been nights were I could not feel pain free enough to sleep and it felt like it was my bones. I love walking but fatigue and muscle weakness was really affecting me, with extreme pain in neck and right shoulder. I do not have a good GP, in the practice they refuse to look at medichecks and they say that their tests are normal but the ferritin and vit D thing has been rumbling on too long. At the last test I read up on these two problems and thought I was acting on it by taking supplements for vit D and changing my diet for ferritin (I do not have a diet rich in iron, drink tea and other tips I read about to reduce ferritin.) I was very surprised with these latest results. Do you self-treat for vit D ie have private tests regularly to see where you are at? I think that’s the way to go for me now as GP is very dismissive. How can their tests be ‘normal’ when there are red flags with medicheck tests? Can I also ask about the thyroid results? I’m seeing an NHS endocrinologist late December. She may or may not accept these results either way I still have symptoms. I wish I knew what to say other than talking about symptoms.

Yes full details on my profile.

I only made progress after 24 years extremely ill Health on just Levothyroxine, when I joined here......saw just how widespread vitamin deficiencies were and why they are key to making improvements

I had extreme bone pain as I started to improve long standing vitamin D deficiency. Again all documented on my profile

I haven't had NHS blood test for over 6 years. My GP so astonished at my improvements that she is happy to have my Medichecks test results on file.

Naturally high iron levels. I don’t know anything about the above, but I had heard of it. It might be worth a look.

Hello folks, I have now seen an NHS endo who said all of my bloods are within range, that T3 could only be prescribed for cancer patients and she is not allowed to prescribe it on the NHS. I explained that I am feeling ill and that I am also concerned with low vit D and high ferritin levels. She said I should supplement with vit D. I explained that I had been supplementing since April and it has risen only a little (with Betteryou D with K2 - she didn’t know what K2 was) and that I do not have an iron rich diet. She said the results would be over 1000 for me to be tested for haemachromatosis. With these results, would it be worth my while trying to see a private endo? I have already spent hundreds on medichecks tests. She made it quite clear that there will be no T3 medication or further testing for iron overload on NHS.
