NDT is not a licensed medication in the UK, so if a doctor prescribes it they have to take personal responsibility and not many are willing to do that. It's a case of finding a doctor willing to prescribe.

Do you have the list of thyroid friendly doctors from Dionne at ThyroidUK? That may be a start

In the UK where, at one time NDT was prescribed frequently especially if not improving on levo.

The BTA making False Statements about this product (used since 1892 so its safety is well proven).

Unfortunately for us - after the withdrawal of T3, NDT was also withdrawn. The fact that, in order to do so, the BTA had to make False Statements.

One of TUK's Advisers wrote to them and another organisation and for three years he requested a response. He never did get one and unfotunately for us Dr L died through an accident.

I am with Graves Disease, diagnosed 2003 and had my thyroid ablated with radioactive iodine some 15 months later, and I continue to manage lingering Graves symptoms, and additionally thyroid eye disease and hypothyroidism.

I became very unwell about 8 years after the RAI treatment and was virtually housebound for a couple of years.

I was refused a trial of T3 in 2017 by the one and only endocrinologist I have ever seen since RAI thyroid ablation in 2005.

My doctor referred to me as a conundrum, refuses to consider NDT and offers only antidepressants alongside monotherapy with Levothyroxine.

I am now self medicating and buying my own thyroid hormone replacements.

I have trialled both a T3 + T4 combo and Natural Desiccated Thyroid and have settled on NDT and am getting my life back on track.

I think you may find it cheaper to self medicate but there are currently issues with some sources of NDT due to the swine flu epidemic in Africa.
