I hate feeling cold!

Hi everyone!

Is it just me, or does anyone feel the cold that much, it is almost like a burning sensation and does it make them go sleepy? also makes me want to wee more as well. (sorry TMI)

For the last few years, each year has got me more sensitive to the cold. You would think someone had stuck me in the blooming freezer, or worse! I am that cold.

To top it all I have now got arthritis in my big toe/bone, on the right side, so can hardly move bar shuffle along at the moment. If you saw me now, I have two hot water bottles stuck to me and a big blanket! I just laugh, otherwise I would cry.

I hate getting old :( Never used to be like this.

Moan and feeling sorry for myself over lol

Take care and keep warm everyone. :)

Getting cold always makes me sleepy and also very stiff. Since going on NDT everything seems to be improving. Hope you soon improve too JOLLYDOLLY .

Ironically I am on the right medication/doses etc but just feel the cold more and more. Never ever bothered me in the past. But the last five years or so, it has, each year getting worse. I think my days of going to the North Pole or climbing mountains, are long over lol. I am that cold tonight, I am crocheting myself some hand warmers lol.

That’s what I found. NDT seems better for my temperature. My joints lock when I’m cold, & arthritis hurts more.

I keep my house at 77 degrees and would really like to keep it at 80, but my son and Daughter-in-law live with me and they would be totally miserable at 80 degrees. (Sorry Brits, I don't know what that is in Celsius.)

JOLLYDOLLY profile image
JOLLYDOLLY in reply toGingersnap202

I have just had a look at a conversion chart and it says 80 degrees is around 26 Celsius - I must admit that would be too high for me as well.

I think for me, it is the chill factor, almost like a burning sensation/cold. "Like someone walking over your grave" as they say in the UK!

But make sure you keep warm, if you like the heating on. I bet if you are in Canada or the US, it will most probably be colder than in the UK. I can remember the chill factor in New York many moons ago.

Take care :)

Yes, the US.

I keep my house at 21 celsuis which 69.8 degrees ... I do turn it up to 23 celsuis which is 73 fahrenheit if the weather is cold but that rarely happens here in the UK. However I have been walking on my nearby forest and have noticed lots of berries on the holly bushes which can mean snow and cold weather in December .... We will have to see if nature is right this time and we have a lot rain at the moment which can turn to snow if the temperature drops suddenly.

My daughter-in-law got an electric fireplace for Christmas last year and if I'm up after she and my son have gone to bed, I will turn that baby up and get it like the Sahara

Desert in here! I am a night-owl. Stay up to about 2:00 AM as I like the quiet of night. They turn in about 9:00 so I have quite a few hours to bake myself if I feel like it LOL!

It is 45 degrees out tonight and my son has the window open in his room. Makes me cold just to think about it!

I can't stand the cold either but I'm not as bad as I used to be. I didn't get a burning sensation but when I got really cold it would make me feel ill and would take ages to warm up. I once sat in front of the fire wrapped in a blanket and it took me an hour to warm up. It can still take a long time to warm up - where I go to keep fit I'm the only one wearing 3 layers on top and leggings under my trousers; quite often it's really cold in the room when we go in and I can finally take off my jacket after about 45 minutes. It's also really cold where I play table tennis on Mondays - this week I had 4 layers on top plus my scarf! I did manage to take my scarf off partway through then my jacket - I still had 2 t-shirts and a cardi on though. Though these days I still (at 73) get hot flushes so if I'm in a room that's warm I keep getting hot flushes! 😫

I thought my hot flushes was because I was menopausal lol! My hands and feet are so cold all the time, you would think they had been in the freezer or worse! Hot water bottle job every night x

You're hypo. Get a CBC and also your thyroid antibodies and TgAb test & post it.

JOLLYDOLLY profile image
JOLLYDOLLY in reply toGKeith

Yes GKeith, I have the full house unfortunately but not sure what CBC is, that is a new one on me. I think everything changed a few years ago as I used to "glow" when I was hot, that stopped and then I started feeling the cold. I think I have a wonky temp gauge lol.

CBC = Complete Blood Count = US name for an FBC = Full Blood Count

JOLLYDOLLY profile image
JOLLYDOLLY in reply tohumanbean

Oh well done - of course it is! The cold has got to me ha ha! x

A CBC is a complete blood count and, although it doesn't focus on any one particular test, it does give you a picture of your overall health and usually finds out where the trouble is, so you can focus on that for correction(s). You should have one annually along with TgAb thyroid antibodies, folate, ferriten, iron, B12 and anything else that your doctor suspects is the root of the problem. Peace be upon you.

Oh I see - should have known after all these years lol. Yes everything is as it should be. Thank you very much for confirming GKeith.

I am either too hot or too cold it is like my thermostat does not work properly.

BB001 profile image
BB001 in reply toLora7again

The Thyroid is the body's thermostat. It controls the metabolism to create energy and heat from food. Feeling so cold is a symptom of hypothyroidism. Continuing to feel cold when on levothyroxine (aka T4) indicates either the dose is to low, or you have issues converting from T4 to T3. It is T3 that is needed to make us function.

JOLLYDOLLY profile image
JOLLYDOLLY in reply toBB001

I am on 200 mcg of T4 and 20 mcg of T3 - I am well in range on both as well. I think all my problems started when they were messing me around many moons ago. The highest I have been on T4 was 250 mcg, but that made me feel ill and was over medicated for my body. 200 mcg is what I call my natural dose, bar the few years they messed me around, I have been on that dose since late childhood.

Me too. I’m sensitive to the cold and heat as well now. So I’m rarely happy (temp wise). 😬

JOLLYDOLLY profile image
JOLLYDOLLY in reply toXanthi

Yes I am like that. I guess I get a bit clammy if I am stressed. But the cold started after I had the flu, about 10/11 years ago. Then several other things since - so maybe a coincidence or the fact I am just getting old ha ha or both. x

Hi, I'm confused. My reply was an explanation to lora7again in response to their comment 'I am either too hot or too cold it is like my thermostat does not work properly'.

Doh. Sorry, JollyDolly. I was just having a hypo moment!

It sounds to me like the messing around has messed something up. What's your cortisol level like? Ferritin? Folate? B12? Vitamin D? Iron?

Have you tried doing the calculation fT4÷fT3? The answer should be around 4 to 4.5 if you are converting T4 to T3 ok. If the answer is above 4.5 it means you aren't converting well, as you need more T4 to make a T3 molecule. Would your endo be amenable to you decreasing T4 a bit and increasing T3 slightly?

JOLLYDOLLY profile image
JOLLYDOLLY in reply toBB001

Hi BB001,

I have all the deficiencies although not iron anaemic now. I am also happy with my thyroid ratio, been through too much for them to start messing me around again especially the T4 and then in fear of losing the T3 as they would try to get me off it, so I never ask to be tested for T3. I believe I am on the right dose to be honest.

Hope you are ok?

Take care :)

If you are on a combo of T4 & T3 you MUST test for T3 because your problem is this: If your T4 is too low and your T3 is mid-range or above you are converting the T4 (maybe again) but how much? Only the TT3 & the FT3 can tell you that answer. If you have high T4 and low T3 you are not converting to T3 which is what a healthy endocrine system does, turn (inactive) T4 into (active) T3. Peace be upon you.
