Would you say this shows goiter, my head is tilted back slightly. Just waiting for full set of lab results back from medicheck after t4 increase 6 weeks ago. Or is goiter lower in the neck?

Everyone is different, so it’s hard to judge. For example mine is lower down, but on 1 lobe (a nodule). If your entire thyroid is swollen it might appear in this manner. A good indicator for goitres is that they move up & down with your thyroid when you swallow, other masses are immobile.

Thanks!!! I’m not worried that it’s a mass more that I’m trying to work out of it is just my throat shape or whether I have a general thyroid swelling/goiter. I always thought the thyroid was lower down.

Can you ask for a neck ultrasound? That can be helpful in determining the size and state of the thyroid.

Ask GP to send you for an Ultrasound scan of your Thyroid and Parathyroids.

Same with me. I emailed hoping for a response but how are you doing? Did you find anything out? I've had (1) CT scan, several ultrasounds and a fine needle aspiration biopsy that came back negative for cancer. Now they want to take my swollen lymph node out to biopsy it further and I have to schedule the surgery 1/25/21.

I can let you know more when I find out more as well.

So mine turned out to be a goiter. Ultrasound showed other nodules that weren't as big. I had surgery with Dr Doherty at Brigham and Young Women's hospital in Boston. I can highly recommend that doctor. He did a spectacular job. I got the big side removed, so a lobectomy. They can't remove just one nodule, they have to take the entire HALF out. My labs showed normal thyroid hormone levels so I won't have to take levothyroxine.

Thank you for the update. I'm experiencing soreness before the mass starts to appear. It started on my right side and is now on my left side. Both seem to be on or near the SCM muscle.

I have a multi-nodular goitre and it is not really noticeable at all. It does make me choke sometimes on food etc. I have had it for about 12 years now and have no intention of having my thyroid removed unless it becomes cancerous. You could ask for a ultrasound on your neck but you will have a long wait because the NHS is under enormous strain with the coronavirus at the moment.
