Hi, I hope you are all hanging on in there.. I have Hypothyroidism and and take 75 mcg Levothyroxine and 20mcg of Liothyronine daily, I have this terrible itching all over my body with very dry skin. My GP has prescribed antihistamines and an emollient, does anybody else have this very distressing condition, any advice greatly appreciated.

Thankyou

Kind regards

Bubba

Have you had any blood tests for your thyroid? If so can you post them with ranges. You could well be undermedicated. My skin was very dry when I was undermedicated. The dryness causes the itchiness.

Has the GP checked your vit d function, I found that having the optimum level keeps your skin health.

I have had this, plus there is lots of good reseach on google scholar regarding vit d deficiency with thyriod.

See from your other post you are currently taking Teva Levothyroxine......this may be the problem

Many people react badly to Teva. It contains mannitol instead of lactose. Mannitol can change gut biome

Or you may be under medicated

For full Thyroid evaluation you need TSH, FT4 and FT3 plus both TPO and TG thyroid antibodies tested. Also EXTREMELY important to test vitamin D, folate, ferritin and B12

Low vitamin levels are extremely common, especially if you have autoimmune thyroid disease (Hashimoto's) diagnosed by raised Thyroid antibodies

Do you have Hashimoto's?

Ask GP to test vitamin levels

Recommended on here that all thyroid blood tests should ideally be done as early as possible in morning and before eating or drinking anything other than water .

Last dose of Levothyroxine 24 hours prior to blood test. (taking delayed dose immediately after blood draw).

This gives highest TSH, lowest FT4 and most consistent results. (Patient to patient tip, best not mentioned to GP or phlebotomist)

If/when also on T3, make sure to take last dose 8-12 hours prior to test, even if this means adjusting time or splitting of dose day before test

Is this how you do your tests?

Private tests are available. Thousands on here forced to do this as NHS often refuses to test FT3 or antibodies or all vitamins

thyroiduk.org.uk/tuk/testin...

Medichecks Thyroid plus ultra vitamin or Blue Horizon Thyroid plus eleven are the most popular choice. DIY finger prick test or option to pay extra for private blood draw. Both companies often have special offers, Medichecks usually have offers on Thursdays, Blue Horizon its more random

Add results and ranges if you have them, or come back with new post once you get results

I’m allergic to all forms of Levothyroxine even liquid and can now only take T3. I have found that the best antihistamine for itching is Fexofenadine 180mg which, at that dose, is specifically for itchy skin conditions and is only available on prescription.

I take 25mcg Wockhardt Levothyroxine and 45mcg T3 per day and I do get very itchy every 3 days or so... very odd, I know, but a generic 10mg ceterizine hydrochloride tablet (currently allacan at Amazon) when the itching starts usually knocks it on the head for the next 3 days.
