On June 29th, my labs showed hyper after 2 straight nights of hot flashes, tingles, adrenaline type rushes, etc. I went to the ER and that's how I found out. My TSH was normal and T4 was high. I followed up with my GP the next day and numbers were normal, so my endo speculated from that that it's thyroiditis and said it would remedy itself. On July 4th had another hyper episode, no labs that time. Fast forward to July 31st, woke up at 1:30am with bad burning and tingling in my legs, head, and arms. Went to the ER again and this time my TSH was high and T3 and T4 normal. After the best sleep of my life that night, I've felt hyper ever since but still have the bad tingling in my legs. I also had a BAD hyper episode last night and didn't sleep all night at all. WHAT GIVES HERE? My endo looked at me Monday and said "I don't know. I have no answers." If he doesn't know, who DOES?

Welcome to the forum, Elizabethbinion.
In what way did your labs show hyper? Can you post them with the ranges?
High TSH with normal T3 and T4 indicates hypothyroidism.
What are the symptoms you are describing as hyper?
I'll have to dig up my labs and post later. The first time I went to the ER with hyper symptoms, my TSH was low and T4 was high. The second time, normal. The third time hypo. This last time, normal. Anyway, my hyper symptoms are/were high heart rate, hot flashes, insomnia, sweating, shaking, panic attack, tightness in chest, and short of breath. These were what I had when I tested with high T4. It just seems to go up and down constantly. I seem to have a few hours with hyper symptoms then drop to hypo quickly. It's so weird.
Elizabethbinion,
It sounds very much as though you may have autoimmune thyroiditis (Hashimoto's) and may be experiencing Hashimoto's flares. In the early months Hashimoto's can cause hormone dumps which can cause transient hyperthyroidism. The lymphocytes infiltrating the thyroid gland destroy cells which dump hormone as they die off. Eventually the destruction of cells atrophies the thyroid gland which is unable to produce sufficient hormone causing hypothyroidism.
Check your labs to see whether thyroid peroxidase antibodies and/or thyroglobulin antibodies were tested.
Have you got Hashimotos thyroiditis and did you have a Hashi flare? What Levothyroxine are you taking? Could it be a bad batch? Was the weather very hot during that time and could the Levothyroxine have been left somewhere where it got too hot? Maybe even in the pharmacy? I've had similar problems and I don't have Hashimotos. In the end I put it down to a bad batch of Levothyroxine or the hot weather affecting them.
