Hello Everyone

A strange question really. Was just wondering if anyone else suffers with being extremely thirsty. Is it the medication or just me. I am newly diagnosed to having an under active thyroid.

Many thanks in advance

Hi Floydy102. Have you thought about having a diabetes test as well?

That’s good to hear but do you consume large amounts of carbs? Maybe something to look at and also tea and coffee if that’s what you’re putting the kettle on for are diuretics so water would be best to quench your thirsty body.

High level of calcium will cause excessive thirst, best to get it checked as hypercalcemia is not good.

Thank you for replying. Think I may need to get bloods done privately

Yes. I've had it - and a really dry mouth, which, thankfully, is getting better at the moment.

The thirst, for me, anyway, was related to high carb intake and poor insulin regulation. As soon as I cut out the carbs, the thirst went. I was so bad a I asked for a blood test for diabetes, as I was peeing all night, too. The test was inconclusive, so I took matters into my own hands - thank god!

I also had adrenal issues and had to drink salty water for a while. The adrenal issues also improved, and one day I just couldn't stand too much salt rather than crave it. Obviously the need for salt didn't help feeling thirsty, either. But it was the carbs that made the real difference.

Thank you for replying. I did have carbs for my evening meal last evening so will try and cut these. Thank you for advice.

Definitely had massive thirst and dry mouth (even nose and eyes) being hypo. Resolves when my dose goes up
