Coeliac Test at home

Hello.

I am going to be going Gluten Free. However it was suggested that before I do that , I should get a Coeliac Test done.

Can anyone advise on this? Have any input? Pro's/Con's and also any recommended test and where I should get it from?

Thank you in advance as always. Really appreciated!

Personally, as I have Coeliac disease, would be better to get tested by gp In case you have it then you will get follow up care. These tests you buy are not reliable, as per Coeliac UK charity.

Hi. Thank you very much. I am not sure what I would say to my GP or what would you advise that I say to them to get a test done? As they seem so difficult to assist with these things. Thank you for your advice x

You are going gf for medical reasons not as a fad diet. It's to help your thyroid gland. Due to having thyroid disease there is a chance you could have CD so ask to get tested on those grounds. Presume you are feeling unwell so therefore want to go gf to see if that helps.

Hi,

Sorry me again :) If I am going to just go GF and stay GF does it make a difference if I test for Coeliac ? Sorry may be a silly question.

TIA

It does because if you do have it there are follow ups. If you have Coeliac disease other autoimmune diseases can follow on and you so get regular tests to check for these. Also a chance of osteoporosis. Dexa scans are usually done at some point.

You can try the GP, and if they refuse then medichecks offer the exact same blood test which costs £79.

You should eat a lot of gluten in the weeks leading up to the test.
