Iron & Folic acid Dosage Query

Hi,

Attached are my readings. From April I have been prescribed A med called Ferrimed which is Sugar-free 50 mg elemental iron as iron (III)-hydroxide poly maltose complex and 150 µg folic acid . My first tests did not show the Folate Levels but the Ferritin. I have noted from my tests last week that the Levels for both Folate & Ferritin have decreased. Not 100% why. However I am need to get another supplement for both. Can anyone DM or suggest a good one they have used or are using ?

Thank you in advance.

Have you got a B12 reading before you started supplementing folate and if so what was it?

Afternoon,

Unfortunately I cannot find if they did. I never knew much beginning of the year about all the ins/outs of Hashimotos. Still learning.

What I can give is the results for Vitamin B12 from last two tests.

28 June : 121 pmol/L

16 October : 88.5 pmol/L

I have however not been taking my vitamin B12 for over a month now.

Hope this is off some use?

TIA

We need the lab ranges to make sense of them. If B12 is deficient you should investigate that deficiency before supplementing folate. The reason is that folate supplementation can mask a B12 deficiency or pernicious anaemia. You need to get hold of your full blood test results along with lab ranges and check what has been tested before any supplements.

Have you been tested for pernicious anaemia? If in England you are entitled to a print out of your results, or you can register for online access through your GP reception.

Hi.

If I think about I just started supplementing the B12 without being tested. And that would of been after April Test. I requested the following in April :

TSH

T4

T3

Reverse T3

Ferratin

Iron Saturation

Vitamin D3

Vitamin A

Selenium

Sex Hormones

Cortisol

FSH Levels

Prolactin

So I would say my first reading was when I was in U.K. in June and I did test for B12 as part of privately paid medi- check test. I had however been taking the B12 on and off.

Afternoon. Apologies I think I have caused some confusion.

I do not have a reading before supplementing with B12.

My first reading which was 2 months after supplementing with B12 was on 28 June : 121 pmol/L.

Thank you
