I thought I would update you on my progress. After years of hypothyroid symptoms I seem to be getting some answers. After numerous standard blood tests I went to see a functional Dr who tested my iodine levels and also did an in-depth blood count. Interestingly I came back as iodine deficient and also my red blood cells are too big. I have been taking iodine for a week now, so no definitive changes yet but only time will tell.

After years of hypothyroid symptoms a functional doctor has possibly found the issue.
If red blood cells are too big, have you been tested for pernicious anaemia or folate deficiency? Pernicious anaemia could cause lack of absorption of other nutrients.
Large blood cells usually indicate that your vitamin B12 and/or folate are low or deficient. Have you had them tested?
Being iodine deficient is very rarely mentioned on the forum. How was the test performed? Was it done using blood or urine? Was it an iodine loading test?
Just seen that Seasidesusie advised you to check out B12 deficiency previously due to Medichecks result. Also, have you excluded gluten intolerance that could also cause poor nutrient absorption?
How much iodine are you taking? Be very careful not to over-dose. Excess iodine is anti-thyroid. Are you also taking selenium? And, is this functional doctor over-seeing your iodine treatment, or just left you to get on with it?
Yes it is greygoose and would not take it because it can make your condition worse like when my Endo overdosed me on Carbimazole
Thanks for your replies. I have to go back for more blood tests in 5 weeks after taking 1 drop of iodine a day. We will then create a plan of action from there.
Hallo Harperhan, how have you been? How is the treatment going?
