Going back and forth from feeling great to anxious

Is this hashimoto's type behavior? I'm on 75 mcg levothyroxine for last 3 days. I felt amazing first week of 25 mcg. Then got mad insomnia and became anxious again. Took some klonopin and slept for like 27 hours in two days. After that felt more normal but still not good. Then moved up to 75 mcg and had insomnia but started to feel great without sleep for much of two days. Had awesome bouts of energy. Then I slept for a while but then felt bad and anxious again when I woke up. Now I have awesome bouts of feeling like shit. I feel bipolar now. Have blood work in about a week. I dont what to expect anymore. I cant be a normal functioning human being like this. I was diagnosed hypothyroid with 21 tsh in the ER after an overdose. Can anybody relate or is that what happens before I finally lose my mind

I would say that sounds very much like Hashi's, yes. And, things should improve as your dose, and your thyroid hormone levels, rise. :)

Levothyroxine should be increased slowly in 25mcg steps upwards. Usual starter dose is 50mcgs

You may find increase from 25mcg to 75mcg too big an increase in one go.

Bloods should be retested 6-8 weeks after each dose increase

The aim of Levothyroxine is to increase the dose slowly in 25mcg steps upwards until TSH is under 2 (many need TSH significantly under one) and most important is that FT4 in top third of range and FT3 at least half way in range

NHS guidelines on Levothyroxine including that most patients eventually need somewhere between 100mcg and 200mcg Levothyroxine.

Also what foods to avoid (eg recommended to avoid calcium rich foods at least four hours from taking Levo)

All four vitamins need to be regularly tested and frequently need supplementing to maintain optimal levels

For full Thyroid evaluation you need TSH, FT4 and FT3 plus both TPO and TG thyroid antibodies tested. Also EXTREMELY important to test vitamin D, folate, ferritin and B12

Low vitamin levels are extremely common, especially if you have autoimmune thyroid disease (Hashimoto's) diagnosed by raised Thyroid antibodies

Ask GP to test vitamin levels

Recommended on here that all thyroid blood tests should ideally be done as early as possible in morning and before eating or drinking anything other than water .

Last dose of Levothyroxine 24 hours prior to blood test. (taking delayed dose immediately after blood draw).

This gives highest TSH, lowest FT4 and most consistent results. (Patient to patient tip, best not mentioned to GP or phlebotomist)

Hashimoto's can cause symptoms similar to Bi-polar

Can increasing too fast cause shortness of breath and palpitations? I guess I'll just go back to 50 mcg. I just have to come to terms that this disease might be too much for my brain to handle. They should have like a hashimoto's rehab facility because I'm probably going to end up in a psych ward if this keeps up. Have you ever heard of hashimoto's being triggered by meat, natural flavors or its preservatives? I've cut out gluten, dairy and soy. Now I'm thinking about giving corn up as well. I joke about stuff on here to keep the mood light but I'm basically in survival mode right now. I wish I could take you guys with me to my doctors appointments. As when I feel bad I just become an idiot who cant process the world around me, it's so pathetic to be honest, let alone figure this complicated puzzle out. I've read case studies about severely mentally ill people responding very well to 400 or 500 mcg doses. Sorry if my messages are disordered and hard to process. Thank you guys for your compassion. Any hope you guys could send my way would be deeply appreciated.

I've watched too many movies and fairy tales where things just magically end up great in the end. I'm so egotistical that I cant see there's already been tons of people who have left this world in misery. I think everyone should rally around me when I'm feeling desperate yet when I'm feeling well I will pretend those sick people arent there. It's so hypocritical yet it's just basic survival instinct. The drowning man will drown his best friend trying to save him. It just proves that I'm just a wounded animal. Nobody gonna wave a wand to make it better.
