(LDN) Low Dose Naltrexone - Experience?

Hello,

Does anyone here take LDN for inflammation? I have just been prescribed it by a private doctor and before I go and add yet another medication to the list of daily pills I pop, I thought I would ask all you wonderful people about your own experiences. Has anyone found that it has helped them? Or the opposite, any adverse reactions to it? How do you take yours and when? Any insights you have would be very very welcomed!

Thank you R xx

Hello again,

I’m taking 3mg (I think) upon the recommendation of my Naturopathic doctor. It’s helped with bringing my thyroid antibodies down and also with bloating. That’s what I’ve noticed so far. I’ve been taking it for about 4 months now. I tried to increase the dose to 4mg as per his advice but I ended up with insomnia. Some people say take it before bed but that didn’t work for me.

So I’ve reduced the dose and I’m fine. I’ve been advised to take it between 5-6pm and that works for me.

What dose are you on? I hope you found a good doctor.

Hello hello :)

Yes so far he seems to be good and also seems very nice, I don't think I am allowed to mention his name on here but happy to PM you? Thank you so much for your reply! He has put me on 1.5 mg once a day for 3 weeks, then raise to 3mg for another 3 then raise to 4.5mg for 6 weeks then review. He hasn't stated a time of day to take it - but I have read as you said, in the eve. Though I do have sleep issues so perhaps that may not be best for me either. I haven't started taking anything yet. I am always reluctant to add another medication to the list I am already taking so I wanted to get opinions/experiences with it first. I am very very bloated and inflamed and that has been pretty consistent since I was first diagnosed, I also get very sour joints especially around the time of my monthly cycle, so he thinks this may help with all of that. It is very positive to hear that it has helped you :)

I have not taken LDN - quite close at one point but life took over. If you are on a PC then look at Related Posts to the right of your post where you will find 10 more posts similar to yours that may be helpful. On a phone just scroll down and down 🌻

Yes, I was prescribed it privately for dramatic inflammation and intense symetrical pain and stiffness in wrists and thumbs, which was spreading. I was losing the use of my hands. Apparently, this a typical early presentation of rheumatoid arthritis. I know someone with RA who has tried horrendous and ineffective NHS treatments, so I opted for a non-standard drug.

LDN, 4.5mg, has worked very well for me. If I forget to take it, the problems soon come back. I take it in the morning, because it disturbed my sleep. Most people take it at night. LDN doesn't work for everyone, but it may be worth trying.

Thank you, so far the replies have been very positive. Did you gradually increase your dose to 4.5? R xx

Yes, I think so. I can't remember the time period over which I increased, but it wasn't long. My initial prescription was for 3 mg, which I gather is unusual.

I was amazed by the response. It's one of very few occasions during long illness that a remedy has worked so rapidly and so well. I do get mini flare-ups from time to time though, especially if I forget my dose.

I take LDN. I have capsules custom compounded for me in an acidophilus base as I cannot tolerate microcrystalline cellulose (Avicel).

I started off on 1.5mg and slowly worked up to 4.5mg daily (this was probably over the course of 6 months). You might find increasing dose after only 3 weeks may be too quick and cause a temporary uptick in symptoms. If so, go back to the previous dose and try again in a few more weeks OR have your increase be in smaller increments than 1.5mg.

I take mine with breakfast, which is anywhere from 7:30 am to 9:30 am. I didn’t like taking it at night.

The LDN seems to be keeping my inflammation down as my inflammation markers have decreased.

Hi Rhsana

Just come across LDN and then your post. I have Graves' disease and would like to deal with the cause of my autoimmune disease rather than just the symptoms; I'm curious as to how you have responded?

Hi Crabb,

LDN by far has been the most effective medicine that I have taken to date, that said its not been as simple as titrating up and then staying on a certain dose for me. I sometimes have to take a break or come back down to feel its effects. It has helped with inflammation and symptomatic pains. I would recommend that anyone with thyroid and other chronic illnesses give it a try. Another positive is that it has cut out any desire to drink (not that I was ever a heavy drinker) but I can see it would be very helpful to people struggling with that. And smoke (I quit 5 years ago and thats when my thyroid issues began) I used to get a pang every now and then for a cigarette and since starring LDN I never do.

Hi,

I was wondering if you have tried it as I’m also suffering with Graves Disease and want to try LDN. Have you managed to get hold of any? I have no idea where to start with trying to access it.

Kind Regards,

Abi

Hi Abi

No, I haven't tried it, I've responded well to Carbimazole over the last 18 months+ and will try for remission once this pandemic crisis is over. If that doesn't work, then I might explore LDN.

Kind regards

Rosie
