I felt overmedicated

Hello All,

I was not feeling very well on 200mcg of Levo so I took things in my own hands and went for T3 and NDT (Thyrogold). Thyrogold didn’t help much because I was on thyroid medication already and a high dose at that. I ended up taking so much more of it than the recommended dose that I supplemented with T3. Immediately I felt better so for a few months I took 2 Thyrogold capsules (300mg) and 25 mcg T3.

Then I began to feel sluggishness and fatigue , getting palpitations, hot flushes, body pains, and general symptoms listed under being overmedicated, so I went and took some blood tests and what I discovered was surprising.

I was under medicated. In fact, I was the most under medicated than ever before in the history of my thyroid journey.

So, I increased to 50mcg of T3, left the Thyrogold out and have been doing so for about 3 weeks now.

The point is as follows: Symptoms of being overmedicated can be quite similar to being undermedicated indeed. The only symptom that wasn’t similar is that I was gaining weight, not losing it. In fact, that made me suspect that I was under.

Of course, my vitamins are also a hot mess so I am also fixing that too.

Blood tests for thyroid hormones were introduced along with levothyroxine alone, which is T4 alone. If we add or take another thyroid hormone like NDT or add T3, the results cannot correlate, so it all depends on 'how we feel on a particular dose' which you have done. I shall give you a link and it is by the doctor/scientist who invented Thyrogold, so that people could access a product when doctors would not adjust others medications when they still felt awful.

Thank you. Thyrogold certainly kept me going when I had nothing.

I like that Dr Lowe states 'Numbers Count' as modern doctors aren't aware how important numbers are i.e. TSH around 1 or lower etc. GPs seem to think that 'anywhere' in the ranges are fine whilst prescribing other medication for symptoms we complain about..

Very true. Even on 200mcg of Levo, my TSH was around 3. And I felt awful.
