For full Thyroid evaluation you need TSH, FT4 and FT3 plus both TPO and TG thyroid antibodies tested. Also important to test vitamin D, folate, ferritin and B12

Low vitamin levels are extremely common, especially if Thyroid antibodies are raised

Recommended on here that all thyroid blood tests should ideally be done as early as possible in morning and fasting. This gives highest TSH, lowest FT4 and most consistent results. (Patient to patient tip, best not mentioned to GP or phlebotomist)

Last Levothyroxine dose should be 24 hours prior to test, (taking delayed dose immediately after blood draw).

When were thyroid and vitamins last tested?

Private tests are available. Thousands on here forced to do this as NHS often refuses to test FT3 or antibodies or all vitamins

thyroiduk.org.uk/tuk/testin...

Medichecks Thyroid plus ultra vitamin or Blue Horizon Thyroid plus eleven are the most popular choice. DIY finger prick test or option to pay extra for private blood draw. Both companies often have special offers, Medichecks usually have offers on Thursdays, Blue Horizon its more random

If antibodies are high this is Hashimoto's, (also known by medics here in UK more commonly as autoimmune thyroid disease).

About 90% of all primary hypothyroidism in Uk is due to Hashimoto's.

Low vitamins are especially common with Hashimoto's. Food intolerances are very common too, especially gluten. So it's important to get TPO and TG thyroid antibodies tested at least once .

Heat intolerance is common hypothyroid symptom, you need full testing

Hi Scrumbler,

200 mcgs of levo is not a high dose. Please don’t be alarmist.

I note that you are taking 2 grains of NDT which is the equivalent of 200mcgs levo!

I am not overmedicated and am permanently over heating.

Hi I’m on 100 mcg and I’m always warm doctor said it was side effect of the medication xx

You cannot say that someone is overmedicated without seeing her labs (with reference ranges).

Considered a high dose by whom? I have read that, before modern test methods and reference ranges were invented, many patients were on 200-400 mcg of levo daily, and had to decrease it once the TSH became the golden standard for thyroid hormone treatment.

While I understand that you want to be helpful, I do find statements like yours above unhelpful because they don't mean anything on their own. YOU may have felt overheated when on 200 mcg of levo, but that doesn't mean that the OP has the same problem. Making sweeping, generalised comments like that can be confusing to especially new members.

Cortisol and sex hormones can also play a role.

Well, you would expect a person who is hyperthyroid (incl drug-induced hyperT) to have a low/suppressed and not a HIGH TSH.

It is simply not possible to jump to your given conclusion without seeing

Blood results.

It is not ‘likely’ anything until you have seen blood results.

Please stop jumping to conclusions.
