Hypo and struggling

Could anyone read these results for me please

I’m a Graves patient who has been left to go under

Feel anything but well

On 2.5mg of carbimazole and just took T3 for the second day

Had palpitations on levo but fear I’ll go same way on T3

If I didn’t take any replacement hormone should my hypo symptoms resolve on their own as I continue to titrate?

Thanks in advance x

I'm not especially good at interpreting blood test results, but your folate & D are low in range. Perhaps increasing these & B12, with our without your GP or endocrinologist's help will make your hormones work better. Perhaps read up on other posts & replies regarding the cofactors we need to make our hormones & bodies work better for us. Lots of people seem to benefit from a change of diet, eg, excluding gluten, etc, & adding zinc & selenium for reducing autoimmune antibodies.

Thanks Bad Hare

I’ve started on Vitamin B complex and it included B12 and folate.

Perhaps I need a top up of vitamin D

You're welcome!

Make sure you get D3 (cholecalciferol) not synthetic D2, & take it with something oily or fatty for better absoption.Remember to avoid all other meds & supplements for >4 hours either side of your THs.

Nothing seems obviously adrift.

Vitamin D may be better around 100nmol

Have you definitely been confirmed as positive for TSI or TRab antibodies

Trying strictly gluten free diet helps many

Have you tried this?

Trying gluten free diet for 3-6 months. If no noticeable improvement then reintroduce gluten and see if symptoms get worse

Thank you Slow Dragon

My TSH has come down from over 5 in January and it was over 4 in October

Endo thinks results are good but I’m tingly, freezing cold arms and legs and slightly puffy ankles and face.

He started me onT3 5mg just yesterday.

Would you know anything about Graves to hypo? Yes I had TRab taken last July and it was 4. He said under 3 was normal.

I had palpitations on levo 25mg and stopped after a couple of weeks.

Can you take vit D on its own?

Personally I prefer vitamin D mouth spray by Better You. It's easier to absorb in mouth.

Vitamin D that you absorb in stomach needs to be four hours away from taking Levothyroxine or T3

I have Hashimoto's, never had Graves. But biggest improvements I found were adding magnesium supplements, vitamin D, then needed Vitamin B complex and realising that low vitamins meant gut was compromised. Going absolutely strictly gluten free was a revelation, despite zero gut symptoms. I take Levothyroxine plus T3

Selenium supplements can help improve conversion of FT4 to FT3

Daily vitamin C to support adrenals

Zinc may be helpful

I am in remission from Graves - 2 years this June. I have been under the care of a naturopath herbalist and I managed to stop anti thyroid medication and to just use the herbal tincture she prepared to keep Graves under control. When we stopped treatment I went gluten free and dairy free as per her advice. I have stayed gluten free but sometimes I do eat dairy (I am not allergic to dairy, the idea was to keep the immune system calm and not excite it).

The issue with treating Graves is not falling in the hypo side which is Hashimoto's. It turns oit Selenium is the supplement which reduces anti TPO antibodies which are the major issue with Hashimoto's. Please do a search on this and you will find quite a few studies. I was happy to just supplement every day with normal dosage Selenium to avoid any issues. I also take daily vit D3 and tincture of adaptogrnic herbs such as Ashwagandha, also high quality good ratio EPA DHA omega 3 oil which is a great anti inflammatory. Essential oils in the diffuser to maintain good mood, less anxiety which is also kept in balance with Reishi mushroom tincture. The mind/nervous system can be a major player in auto-immune thyroid issues, but also the gut so I make goat's milk kefir every day plus make sure you eat lots of fibre. Both my autoimmune diseases - Graves disease and solar urticaria (sunlight allergy) - are now in remission.
