Hyper (sweating) and hypo symptoms with Hashis.

I remember when I was first diagnosed, the doctor thought I was hyperthyroid because I was so anxious. Instead I was hypo and, when not euthyroid, my tsh has always been high. Currently it is above reference range and I have been prescribed more levo. Antibodies confirmed Hashimoto’s diagnosis. My question- is it normal to have some hyper symptoms while “hypo”- specifically sweating, fast heartbeat and anxiety? A little embarrassing but it kind of freaks me out sometimes and it confuses me because I have heard you sweat less when hypo.

I dont know if it is the norm buy i get palpitations and hyper like symptoms when my thyroid dose is too low. Once i increase my meds my heart rate will lower ..... might be different to others

Yes, it's the nature of Hashimotos that you will get both hypo & hyper symptoms, so anything goes!

I think when your thyroid gland is struggling you can get palpitations and sweating. I had terrible night sweats when my Graves' was at its worst.

Do you take vit D?

Yes, with supplementation I am now within range but still very low (34 with a reference range of 30-100). Thus, within the last few weeks, I have doubled my daily dose.

With low vitamin D it's possible your calcium is low, which could be another cause of anxiety.

I get hot flashes and sweats with vit D supplementation. I’ve tried it three times . Some people just don’t tolerate vit D supplements, especially those with Hashi’s. You can stop for a while and see if your sweating will lessen. It is possible that YOU don't need a very high level. Best whishes.

It's not helpful to think of symptoms as specifically hypo or hyper. So many of them can be both - especially anxiety. But, it certainly is possible for some cells to be getting too much hormone, whilst others don't get enough. That's why we can't go on symptoms alone but need the labs to back them up.

Excess sweating can be due to low vit D. And other symptoms can be due to other nutritional deficiencies. So, you need your nutrients tested: vit D, vit B12, folate and ferritin. They can all be low with Hashi's, due to low stomach acid.
