A while ago I saw an endocrinologist and she recommended I take Selenium which I did. She gave me 200μg daily which I have started and stopped twice now.
The first time, I got awful memory fog (almost unable to function), hair falling out, tiredness. The second time, i had to stop after two weeks. My hair loss was dramatic and my lichen sclerosis has flared badly.
Is this a normal reaction or are other things going on?
I would really appreciate some insights as everyone seems to recommend it for Hashi's, which I have.
Thank you

Did your endocrinologist run blood tests to confirm deficiencies? If not then ask for them to be done and if yes then get the results and post on this forum. Include TSH, FT3, FT4, TPO if you have it. B12, folate, ferritin, vitamin D, calcium (at a minimum) and then minerals like selenium if considered deficient.
I did not do well with Selenium . I was hot and sweating itching and had hair falling out. Omitting Selenium helped with my symptoms . You might be getting enough Selenium if your on multi vitamins that contain Selenium. Many of our foods contain Selenium too .
200 µg isn't too much? It is way above daily needs -would that explain hair loss? I take one large Brazilian nut everyday and the rest comes from other foods.
Thank you for the helpful replies. It sounds like I'm not totally abnormal which is a relief.
One doctor (functional medicine) I saw told me that my aversion to Selenium was down to heavy metal poisoning and I should get my amalgam fillings replaced. So many snake oil sellers out there...
