Just wondering if any of you who have/had goitres also had ever used topical iodine to cleanse wounds?

Goitre and povidone topical iodine
Not recently but when I was a child iodine was used in me all the time, don't know if that's what you mean though!
Do you have a goitre?
Yeah, I read somewhere that povidone iodine could cause a goitre and wondered how true it was.
I broke a few bones, they were pinned and I had iodine applied to the pin sites. 3-years after I developed a goitre.....that was 20plus years ago and I'm curious to the cause as there is no family history of overactive or goitre.
Thanks x
I use lugols iodine on wounds like cat scratches. I don't think you can get the old iodine BP (that we used to use years ago) in the UK any more. But povidone iodine is a different animal - I wouldn't feel happy using anything that began with "polyvinyl". No goiter, just hypo.
They have stopped using iodine on new born navels in the USA as they thought it could later lead to problems.
My mother was a nurse and used to swamp us in iodine at the first opportunity! I now use it in lambing but am careful to wear gloves as I have become very sensitive to it and come up in blisters following a contrast scan.
