As explained in reply to a previous post of yours, magnesium comes in different forms You need to check to see which would suit you best. For example, if you don't suffer from constipation then you'd wouldn't choose magnesium citrate. What each different form helps are explained in the following links, choose the one which is best for you then check different brands to see exactly what they contain in the way of excipients.

thanks, are you being sarcastic? I can't take it all in sorry if I don't get it as quickly as you would like me to, but thanks for the info.
No, I'm not being sarcastic. I've no idea why you'd think that. I've given you the information again that you need to make the decision on which form of magnesium to take. I'm well aware how hypothyroidism affects us all, hence the reminder about the information.
thanks again. I am trying to figure this all out and it is like being stuck in a fog with a blindfold on at times so I will need a bit more support maybe and tolerance with all my questions. I am bombarded with so many brands of each supplement and I welcome other's opinions. If you feel that I have asked the same question to which you have answered I can only apologise and try to figure it out, but I can not take it all in at the same time but I am very grateful for all your time and effort.
I can only see support in my answers, not intolerance.
You need to decide on which form of magnesium to take before even looking at brands. You can always ask for a recommendation of a brand once you know which type of magnesium you want. I can recommend an excellent magnesium citrate with absolutely no excipients, but as I said, you'd not want to take that if you don't suffer from constipation as it would cause loose stools/diarrhoea.
I have read the info and am going for the glycinate thanks but as I say the brands are a mystery to me.
I too followed Seaside Susie’s advice and read up on different types of magnesium. I decided on magnesium glycinate- bought FS brand £12.99 Amazon for 90. I think they have improved my mood and helped me sleep. I hope magnesium helps lesson your symptoms.
I have a word doc specially for info and recommendations as I forget too, then can't find them again. When I come across something helpful (if I remember) I copy and paste it. Then I can go back over it to help me get it. Hope this suggestion helps.
Lesbud1, Don't forget that the people who use their time to help you are also sufferers of thyroid illness. Any symptoms or difficulty you feel yourself, the person that is helping you is probably feeling the same.
Someone like SeasideSusie helps dozens of people each day, I think it is a bit mean to criticise her and ask for more when she is already doing so much for so many.
Hi, I take magnesium plant base. It doesn't have caffeine. It does make you go to the bathroom at least once a day. However, it's good bc letrozole and ibranxe cause constipation and I suffered of that before and the meds make worse.
I think she’s finding your remark a little bit ‘intolerant ‘ ....’as I told you before...’
I didn't say that.
Apologies - that wasn’t a direct quote - but it is how it read.
I don't see why you would read it like that.
I don't think saying "As explained in reply to a previous post ..." and going on to explain one reason why magnesium citrate wouldn't be suitable, and then including all the links to articles about the different forms of magnesium again is being intolerant. That is saying "you may have forgotten but here is the information again", that was how it was meant. I went on to say in my next reply
I'm well aware how hypothyroidism affects us all, hence the reminder about the information.
I can only see support in my responses.
SeasideSusie, I think what you said is very reasonable. I'm dismayed to see people criticizing you and nitpicking tiny points in what you've said.
Maybe people in this thread don't realise that SeasideSusie is an absolute treasure on this forum. She has enormous knowledge about vitamins and shares it generously and tirelessly. We'd all be worse off if she wasn't here helping people. She deserves nothing but gratitude and respect from forum members.
SilverAvocado, I think with any forum when your typing to strangers you will always have those times when someone thinks the tone of whats being typed answer/question can be misinterpreted. It happens.
Me personally think this site actually has the best Admins they give coherent information and are willing to answer the same question a million times (thank you) for all your time.
On the other hand when I sometimes comment on post (not by admin) I get jumped on for my help and by no means do I say anything off the wall crazy like (sing) in shower and your thyroid will heal..lol. I often wonder if it's because I'm from the US or because they misinterpreted my tone, I will never really know why I make certain (no names) mad. I bet if you met me in person you be head over heels for me...yeah probably not!
Heehee! I'm sure I would be head over heels, we both share the hobby of coughing up furballs after all!!
I've been active on the forum for five years, and it's only happened to me a handful of times that people are argumentative or I've had a bad experience. In a way we are a little island of calm and considerate behaviour on the harsh Internet sea, where so many other forums have loads of arguments and rude behaviour.
I have my hairball kitty on everything, this is what I feel like without my stinking thyroid...I think this disease makes us all batty at times....We gotta breath relax and realize we only have each other in this thyroid nightmare and actually I'm glad I found lesbud1 post I had no idea that some magnesium contains caffeine..one more thing to look out for...it never ends.
I’m always amazed at the quick response from SeasideSusie. I don’t often post, but I specifically log on to read her helpful responses to others, she’s a wealth of knowledge. I trust her knowledge more than my Endo & G.P combined. Cudos to her and all the other administrators, members & sufferers. Let’s not forget that we’re all victims to this horrendous condition.
I wish everyone improved health & strength. Especially to SeasideSusie, you inspire me to keep on fighting!!!!
I just looked up magnesium in a book by Dr. Andrew Weil’s, he suggests magnesium gluconate, glycinate, citrate, chelate, but as Seaside Susie mentioned you might not want to take the citrate one unless you are always constipated, he said that these are the best absorbed by the body. I am like you, you are not alone, I can’t absorb and remember everything that I read about all this thyroid business either so I have to go back over some things, and it is a lot to take in.
Only thing I would say is that the L Threonate version wasn't good for me-particularly sleep, but took for a different reason.
Some people say the chelated version is good cos released slower over the day.
this was the one I was taking (L Threonate) but like I said it had caffeine in it so thought that was why I was getting anxious and a bit jittery but might have been combo of both but thanks for your thoughts.
I strongly recommend doctor's best high absorption magnesium glycinate. I am a big fan of that product ☺️
I got bad diarrhea from magnesium citrate. I asked at the health vitamin store and I got chelated magnesium which agrees with me. It is easier on the system.
I have been taking brainpower nootropics magnesium bisglycinate, seems to be helping with sleep.
I recently got 'Better You' magnesium lotion and its good stuff and it absorbs into the skin. Was recommended by someone on here. Just another option to look at...😊
I tried that but it really stings when I put it on ..I guess that’s a sign I’m deficient
I’ve tried Pure Magnesium Oil, it’s a magnesium chloride brine, on my legs, It really stung, don’t know if it was because it said that it was highly concentrated or what, I haven’t used it since, I guess I need to give it another try though.
Ive weirdly felt that feeling, actually feels like it helps with the pain I get. It tends to stop after a little while. Ive got very sensitive skin and havent had any reactions. Hope it helps....
I may give your Better You lotion recommendation a try if mine doesn’t work out, thanks, mine is also oil which is a little messy.
thank you so much for all your info.
You don't say what you are wanting to take it for, so people have to give you more general answers. ... My DC had Magnezyme on hand, and when I complained of restless legs during sleep, he handed me a bottle and said: "Here, try this. You can pay me if it works." It DID work and improved my sleep quality greatly! ... Such a neat doctor. Lost him to cancer last year and I haven't found another DC that is anywhere near his gentle, generous approach.
Hi I've been using this liquid form.
water-for-health.co.uk/magn...
It's very bitter tasting on its own, but I put it in my waterbottle and drink during the day. Easy to adjust to the dose that suits you. Not had any ill effects. I have tried the oil, but not the crystals they sell.
Hope you find one that suits
I'm taking Mega-Mag magnesium chloride in dropper form to avoid additives. I find it very good - although I think this also has a slight laxative effect if you take too much.
Hi can I ask where you get that from?
The obvious shop for this stuff is Holland and barratt - but I guess you didn’t get it there as they don’t really have a good press on quality products/ingredients. Thanks
H&B is crap. I used to love H&B - I could spend hours in there. But this was 20 years ago and I moved abroad. When I came back a few years ago and went into H&B I was shocked. I was searching for all the top brand names in supplements and it was all their own-brand stuff full of fillers and binders; cheap rubbish, essentially.
I get most of my stuff off Amazon. This is the one I've used for a couple of years (it lasts for ages, too): amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B00...
I also use a spray sometimes, but as others have said, it's very itchy or stings if you have a scratch. Plus it sticks to my clothes and bedsheets.
I am taking magnesium glycinate. Some brands come in huge tablets which I had to break up in order to swallow so I swopped to capsules from Your Supplements. Easily swallowed. Magnesium citrate gave me diarrhea.
Who knew? Amazon lists vitamins that are easy to swallow when you search on "easy swallow vitamins". I also tried it specifying a nutrient: "easy swallow magnesium". It works. Thanks for that!
In my case, it's not so much a swallowing problem as a "running out of room in my 14-day case with 4 boxes per day." Some capsules are huge and in that case, I usually can't get more than 3 or 4 into one of the little boxes. I actually use the top two boxes for what I take after breakfast. The next box contains the pills I take at 3 p.m. and after dinner (the former are very distinctive looking -- if they were big capsules filled with white powder I would be S.O.L.) Finally, the bottom box has the pills I take before bed.
“Isotonix”brand are the best since they absorb in the vista right within 5 mins of taking. Market America Isotonix
I have had various oral magnesium pills, but now do Epsom /Dead Sea salt baths...supposed to be absorbed thru skin into body, and certainly feel the difference on the skin itself. Look online you can get very large bags for relatively little cost per bath ( sold in these sizes for aquariums).
I take magnesium glycinate capsules every now and then.
Never heard of magnesium with caffeine. What the purpose of the caffeine?
maybe to counteract the sedative effect of the mag? I don't know I just didn't read it properly before I clicked buy from amazon. you live and learn.
When we lived in Cape Town, I used a brand that was powdered rock from the Dolomites (Italy) - contained calcium as well. Now we’re in the UK, I get mag. tablets from Zipvit (if I’m allowed to give names!), but would have to check what kind of magnesium compound they contain.
For people with Hashimoto’s and constipation- Magnesium Citrate, for people with normal bowel function or who tend towards diarrhea- Magnesium Glycinate.
I take Magenhance, I buy it from Amazon. It's 3 different types of magnesium, Glycinate, L-Threonate and Taurate. It's quite expensive £24.99 for 90 tablets and a daily recommendation is for 3 tablets but I only take one a day. A few years ago, when I was getting several aura migraines a month, someone recommended magnesium to me and I started with Zechstein magnesium transdermal oil, which brought down my attacks to about 1 a month or every 6 weeks. Since taking Magenhance, I've had even fewer attacks, only had one attack in the last 4 months. I know you're not asking for migraine reasons, lesbud but thought I'd talk about my experiences, in my reply to you, in case it helps others reading. Lots of reviews on Amazon which might help you decide if this brand is worth a try.
