I have a new GP surgery and am waiting for my notes to be put online. I find out that they are just a summary and that blood tests are only mentioned if they are not 'normal'? what is the point access to just summaries and no blood results? am I missing something? I have requested all my blood test since my thyroid problems in 1999 and they are happy to supply these to me thank goodness.

Access to medical notes
It’s so that they can say they provide you with access to your notes.
Your new surgery has to request your electronic medical records via GP2GP within ten days of your registration with your new practice. If they don’t do this they will need to wait for a print out and old paper notes. These are the summarised by a GP clerk who picks out main diagnoses and starts a new electronic record. This is poor practice as all GP practices should import the electronic record. Ask if they have done that.
If not I suggest you ask for a copy of everything by saying you are submitting this request as a Subject Access Request in line with your rights under GDPR Section 15. You can request this verbally and it is free of charge. You can ask for your copy to be sent to you electronically CD email or paper. Lots of info in my previous posts.
PS the GP2GP transfer process is instantaneous. The electronic record is requested and it is sent immediately to the receiving practice. It is if I’m not mistaken within the GP contract to ensure this is done to allow continuity of medical records. In practice this is failing due to poor in practice management and process.
Since March 2016 it has been mandatory for all test results to be viewable on the Summary Record. Along with documents and letter from ?July 2017. If they are refusing access to blood test results the practice is in breach of their contract. It is a battle.
I have been told because I am new to the practice, about 3 months it hasn't been done yet. they tell me that they will get me copies of my blood tests for the last 20yrs. they also tell me that the results will only say online if the tests were normal not all the results. which I thought was a bit pointless. thanks for all this info you are a fountain of knowledge and support.
I just asked about mine when I went for a GP appointment and when I got home I logged straight in. I can download a lot of them as documents ... this is going to be interesting reading 8~)
It certainly was interesting all 102 pages! I am a delusional, alcoholic with mental health problems who causes trouble by asking for help!🍷🍸🍺🍾 fuming!
Yes, I wish we could sue!
My notes documented right heart failure. Someone else’s ECG was in my notes. I had to use the GDPR Right to Rectification to have it removed from the online Problem List! as I do not have a heart condition if any kind!
I agree they would write without a filter but if serious conditions and errors are recorded in our medical records that will be forwarded via the new Local Health and Care Records we have every right to access them and correct mistakes as this could affect our future treatment. The subjective comments seen in my record both by GP and admin staff is a disgrace and unacceptable. Recording of subjective comments needs to be challenged robustly. The access to records project has been going on for many many years they should have borne in mind we would all see their comments one day :0
before I was diagnosed with B12 d I was in and out of hospital with chest pains and fit like episodes which I am absolutely sure a got an attentions seeker label. I have requested my hospital notes and I intend to correct this or at least get a solicitor to write on my behalf stating that these symptoms were all attributed to B12 d that I was later diagnosed with. I am sure treatment I have received from hospital after this has reflected this label.
Good luck .. I am having to wait weeks to talk to one of the partners at my practice about comments made on my records ... I am also an attention seeker .
I had another womans notes in with mine....
I also changed sex at one point and had apparently refused a prostate exam. Interesting, as a female they would have been hard pressed to find one!
I dont think it really matters as I have yet to find a GP or specialist who bothers to read a patients notes!
