Has anyone had their access to their medical records removed from Patient Access? I checked on 12th March and it was OK and then I checked today, no access, either on app or on my computer.
There's loads of info about various medical conditions and self-referral process for these but no access to my medical records.
I've reported to technical support as I use it to monitor my bloods for thyroid and for breast cancer treatment as I never get the correct info if I telephone the surgery. Also copies of letters/emails that don't always get sent to me.
Just wondered if this is deliberate or just an admin error. Might speak to surgery tomorrow.

Yes. You just have to ask at the surgery whether you can have access. They give you a form to complete. Not sure they’ll want to do it now though with the Coronavirus issue. Probably won’t have time to do it.
Yes absolutely. I can see each document and each test result going right back to when I joined the surgery. I can see the doctors notes on each consultation too. It’s very useful. I managed to see the pathology results of my breast surgery which was not sent to me. I find it very useful. Have signed up to the NHS app now and can access via that but it doesn’t give access to the documents. I’ll be speaking to surgery tomorrow.
Yes it is but I’m being generous and thinking that the IT team who set up all the extra help pages have turned something off by mistake given that it seems to be affecting everyone. I’ve reported it to the technical team, so hopefully they will sort it out.
Yes it happened to me before but I think it was only part of the medical record that was missing last time. Seems to have happened to more than just me so I think it is a technical issue.
Mine have disappeared as well. I know that over a week ago the online service was removed but I think my records and test results etc were still there last Monday. I have to contact my surgery later today anyway so will ask them then why this has happened.
Yes-same here; full access when I looked last weekend and then this weekend went to check my latest blood results and the section for medical records no longer listed.
Have emailed the surgery; if I hear anything back I will send an update.
I have just got this reply from technical support.
Hello,
Patient Access is aware of an issue around users having access to their documents or medical records from online services revoked. This issue is currently in hand with any practice that is currently affected, and they are speaking to the relevant teams regarding this issue. We would like to advise our users to contact their surgery for further information on this.
This may be a thick finger response to the virus .My surgery has removed all appointments facilities but nothing else ,now have to phone up. It has the disadvantage that cannot see future appointments!
Has your practice removed online appointments if so it may be their system is more unwieldy and involves removing more chunks at the same time.
No. I contacted the surgery via the email facility on Patient Access this morning about it and then got a no-reply email back to day access had changed. It hadn’t, so I’ve emailed them again. Not heard back from them yet. Looks like they’re aware of it though.
That is a breach of the GDPR unless they intend you to have printed copies on request but suspect it is something to do with updating the system to cope with Covid-19.
Just seen on Patient Access under a message about Coronavirus that access to Medical Records has been temporarily disabled whilst Patient Access is updated.
Hadn’t noticed this before don’t know whether it was there or whether I just missed it.
I asked my surgery about this today and they said they'd decided to take all records and test results offline, as well as bookings. I think it odd because it means people will be phoning them for test results and taking up their time, as I did. On the other hand they're offering phone appointments throughout the week and weekend, and checking on symptoms. A shame though that we hadn't been given warning so that we could have copied things we needed.
I agree but I don’t think they can do this. I know these are uncertain times. Luckily I’ve got copies of all my documents as I did download the ones I didn’t have and I put all of my test results onto a massive spreadsheet that I keep up to date.
I check my medical records everyday as I’m currently going through cancer treatment.
I've always copied my thyroid test results going back years, but no others. It is annoying. I'm glad you've got access back and good luck with your treatment!
My surgery had the Medical Records Access disabled by the Technical team for Coronavirus updates but it was re-enabled today. I think it was the Technical team because my surgery didn’t know it had been enabled again.
I agree, it makes no sense for surgeries to increase telephone traffic to the surgery when they will be busy with telephone appointments.
helvella, the only other thing I can think is that about 5 weeks ago my surgery switched to a different IT system, after which my husband and I had to reregister for both the online access and my husband's repeat prescription App. But they were very apologetic about that at the time and spent a while on the phone helping us regain access. This latest idea makes no sense to me.
