It would seem that your GP has prescribed the loading doses which total 300,000iu D3 over 6 weeks. Once these have finished it is important to retest. The result of that new test determines what dose of D3 you then should take. You can't guess, your dose needs to be tailored to your new level.
Reread my reply to you in your previous thread here
healthunlocked.com/thyroidu...
where I explained what you need to do once the loading doses have been completed and where to get a private Vit D test if your GP wont retest, what the best form of D3 is when Hashi's is present, and the important cofactors needed when taking D3 and why they're needed.
It would be an idea to print off that information and have it to hand, which will save you looking back at old threads to try and find it again.
he has told me t get a blood test in a month and take it from there
I've printed off a lot of stuff including the vit d .I have a lovely doc. who is taking me seriously
If you have finished your loading doses at that time, post your new result on the forum and I will point you in the right direction of where to work out what your next dose should be. Your GP may suggest taking 1000iu a day, maybe a different amount, but you should post your result so we can help you work out the correct dose.
You can order your vitamin d supplies now and start using them on the days you are not taking the 50,000iu loading doses from your doctor. There is nothing wrong with the suggestions that have been made by others but if cost is a concern there are 5000 iu vitamin d3 softgels in olive oil available on Ebay (Naturplus) for around £21 for 1000 that work out cost effective if everyone in your house needs them, likely if you live in the UK.
Most people require between 6000 and 10,000 iu daily long term to stay at/above 125nmol/l 50ng/ml.
Most people do not consume the magnesium RDA so boosting magnesium intake will help increase your vitamin d level, 100mg magnesium with each meal and before bed is ideal however 200mg morning and evening should be fine. Using a single high dose may result in diarrhoea. Magnesium is a natural calcium channel blocker so helps keep calcium under control.
Hi pabhoo,
My Gp has just started to prescribe Vitamin d. He put me on a course last year. I already knew I was in the insufficient range from a medichecks test and had been supplementing with better you spray, K2 and magnesium as per advice on here. I thought that together with the consistently sunny weather last year would increase my levels. So, in September when I had my thyroid bloods done I asked for my Vit d to be checked, it was lower but still only insufficient range. GP called and put me on vit d supplement. I had a check 3months later (trouble getting appointment before work) and it had risen very slightly. I was put on supplements again around March, re-tested early July, still insufficient. GP called and said he was just going to add vitamin d on to my prescription. I now take 1 a week and still take my Vit K2 spray and magnesium. I think if I had been re-tested shortly after the course of treatment I might have shown good levels. The tests though show that after a couple of months I would have been back more or less where I started. Perhaps you need to leave it a couple of months after the loading doses and the re-test to see where your levels are then? If still low or insufficient GP might prescribe? Good luck, JCMK
