now that I am thinking about my previous thyroid problems I seem to remember them telling me I had a nodule on my thyroid. I will need to ask to see my GP notes to check as it was a long time ago. I also seem to remember them telling me it was okay but I am not too sure what this might mean? is this normal for thyroid problems to have a nodule or could this be something to do with my swallowing/feeling as though I have a lump in my throat? or that I have a hoarse voice sometimes? as I said I was overactive then had carbimazole and radiotherapy iodine procedure and then went underactive.

Nodule
Most people have nodules on their thyroid, even people without thyroid problems. And they are rarely a problem. But, they can get large enough to interfere with swallowing and breathing, yes.
thanks. will make sure the doc check it out.
But, if you no-longer have a thyroid, you no-longer have the nodule, either.
sorry not too sure what you mean? I haven't had surgery on my thyroid, only the radiotherapy iodine.
oh and carbimazole for many months, can't remember how long as it was a long time ago and I have been concerned with my B12 deficiency for so long that I didn't realise that they seem to have some similar symptoms. I started to think my thyroid might be out as have been having emotional problems and anxiety and I started to wonder if some of my symptoms were thyroid related and not hot flushes and unable to control temp from menopause. I am going to get the results and then see what the GP says about them and then if nothing I will ask advice on self medication on here as I need to feel a least a bit better. I just feel its another fight/disagreement I might have with the GP. I honestly feel too tired and emotional to be able to argue my case, but very grateful for the support on here. thanks.
RAI destroys the thyroid, as far as I know. I've never heard of anyone having problems with nodules after RAI. But, I could be wrong.
How long ago did you have RAI? And, you've never been on thyroid hormone replacement (levo)?
All I can remember was going to the dept once, I think. they I had to stay away from babies for a certain time? its a bit vague but I don't remember going back, yes just the once. I continued to be on the carbimazole for many months and then eventually levothyroxine for a few years until I had the reaction, like I have had to some long term antibiotics for acne. I never thought anymore of it as the doc said it was okay so I just thought it had normalised itself. then I have moved areas and GPs a few times so I suppose no one thought to check it.
So, you really do need your thyroid retested as soon as possible. Sounds as if you're pretty hypo now.
