Cortisol high?

I decided to take a home blood test for cortisol. It was taken at 8am only the once so not sure how accurate this is. It was 593nmol... nearly off the page! What would this mean and should I have a saliva test to check what it does the rest of the day. I've also just had another crash where I just can't function for 4 days. Is this because of the hormones being dumped into the system when thyroid is attacked? Am still climbing up the dosing ladder and just started on 100mcg. Hopefully it will kick in soon!

High cortisol can be due to a couple of different factors, yours is not excessively high a "normal" persons should be around 500nmol/Ls at 8-9am. If you are on the contraceptive pill or HRT then they can give a false high reading. However if you have other symptoms such as rapid weight gain around your trunk, insomnia, high blood pressure, acne, stretch marks to name a few of the symptoms then you may have Cushing's disease or syndrome. You could ask your GP to do an early morning blood test to see what those results come back as. If you are on the pill or HRT then you may need to stop them for 6 weeks prior to further testing.

Ah, yes I'm on HRT. The report came back that it was too high so I was a bit worried but I don't have other symptoms of Cushings.

I wouldn't worry then, it isn't that high!
