Thyriod pain and hashimoto

Hi all,

I was diagnosed with hashimoto with high anti bodies

Anti Thyroglobulin Abs: 187.8 IU/ml ( 0-60)

Anti Thyroid Peroxidase Abs : >1300.0 IU/ml (0-60)

I take levo 75 and my thyriod results are normal. Since the middle of April I suffer from thyriod pain and I feel feverish without fever. My doc tested me for other autoimmune diseases but I was negative.I was put on steroids but they do nothing to my pain.

I try gluten, dairy, and soy free for two months but with no improvements. Then I tried Autoimmune Protocol Diet (AIP) and I feel much better and for the first time the thyriod pain decrease and I do not feel feverish but unfortunately I skipped it after only one month as I lost too much weight and my energy was too low because the low carbs.I began to eat nightshades and other grains (other than gluten) and my symptoms returned much stronger.

My doc sent me for ultrasound and this freaked me out.Does the thyriod pain indicate something not begein in the thyriod? Why I feel there is a heavy burden on my neck all the time despite I can see no goitre, just the right side is swollen than the left? Why I feel feverish all the time? Is removing the thyriod will resolve my symptoms?

Thanks for your help.

75mcg Levothyroxine is only one step up from 50mcg starter dose

You have high antibodies which confirms that cause is autoimmune thyroid disease also called Hashimoto's

you need TSH, FT4 and FT3 retested. Also extremely important to test vitamin D, folate, ferritin and B12

Low vitamin levels are extremely common, especially with Hashimoto's

Have you had vitamin levels tested?

What vitamin supplements do you currently take

Recommended on here that all thyroid blood tests should ideally be done as early as possible in morning and fasting. This gives highest TSH, lowest FT4 and most consistent results. (Patient to patient tip, best not mentioned to GP or phlebotomist)

Last Levothyroxine dose should be 24 hours prior to test, (taking delayed dose immediately after blood draw).

Is this how you do your tests?

Private tests are available. Thousands on here forced to do this as NHS often refuses to test FT3 or antibodies or all vitamins

thyroiduk.org.uk/tuk/testin...

Medichecks Thyroid plus ultra vitamin or Blue Horizon Thyroid plus eleven are the most popular choice. DIY finger prick test or option to pay extra for private blood draw. Both companies often have special offers, Medichecks usually have offers on Thursdays, Blue Horizon its more random

The aim of Levothyroxine is to increase the dose slowly in 25mcg steps upwards until TSH is under 2 (many need TSH significantly under one) and most important is that FT4 in top third of range and FT3 at least half way in range

All four vitamins need to be regularly tested and frequently need supplementing to maintain optimal levels

NHS guidelines on Levothyroxine including that most patients eventually need somewhere between 100mcg and 200mcg Levothyroxine.

Also what foods to avoid (eg recommended to avoid calcium rich foods at least four hours from taking Levo)

Always take Levo on empty stomach and then nothing apart from water for at least an hour after.

Many take Levothyroxine early morning, on waking, but it may be more convenient and possibly more effective taken at bedtime.

Other medication at least 2 hours away, some like HRT, iron, calcium, vitamin D or magnesium at least four hours away from Levothyroxine

Many people find Levothyroxine brands are not interchangeable.

Once you find a brand that suits you, best to make sure to only get that one at each prescription. Watch out for brand change when dose is increased or at repeat prescription.

Many patients do NOT get on well with Teva brand of Levothyroxine. Though it is the only one for lactose intolerant patients. Teva is the only brand that makes 75mcg tablet.

Ultrasound scan of thyroid is just to confirm how much damage been done yet by Hashimoto's

Thanks for your reply.I took B12 and D3.I increased my dose from 50 to 75 two weeks ago so I have to wait more weeks until I did the tests.I took my dose in the morning and no food or supplement until 4 hours of the dose.I did not know about the brand because I am from Egypt. My question is thyriod pain, feeling feverish, and neck hurts all the time are common with hashimoto?
