Hi, has anyone got any information about how the contraceptive pill affects thyroid medication?
I take NDT and T3 which I purchase myself, no luck getting those in the UK, and I feel really good now apart from being a bit tired, but as I've had chronic depression since my teens, I am used to that and that is just me. I am trying to lose the weight that I gained when I was put on Levo, it gave me awful side effects and the brain fog was something else. The side effects all disappeared when I sorted out my own medication (after reading lots of helpful advice on here, thanks everyone), but I am left with the weight gain. I have noticed that on my week off from the pill, I lose weight without trying but struggle during the rest of the month.
I take my thyroid meds in the morning along with the contraceptive pill but am thinking of taking that at night to see if it makes any difference. I just wondered if anyone knew more about this. I would appreciate any answers.

That was interesting. I think I'll be seeing my Dr about changing my pill. If stopping it can make me lose weight easily, I don't see why I should be this weight if I don't have to be.
Thank you JaneyJaney. I agree that other hormone treatments affect us people with thyroid problems. I'm sorry you put on the weight with your pill. You say, you lost it when you stopped, did you put any back on after taking Levo? I totally blame that for my weight gain of a stone, and I'm struggling to lose it and know I should not be this weight given how much I eat. But the week I don't take the pill, I lose without trying. I'm thinking of getting rid of the pill cos I really can't get rid of the NDT which has changed my life, but I really enjoy the regulation of periods on the pill. It seems amazing the amount of things that thyroid and hormone problems can affect.
Hi JaneyJaney. Sorry for not replying sooner but I've had a sickness bug at the end of last week.
That is interesting about how you've gained weight and the pills contain stuff to fatten up pigs, surely that can't be a coincidence. I hope that you have conquered your cancer, it never ends does it once you get ill? It's one thing after another.
I should have started to take my pill again this Monday but I have decided to come off them altogether and see what difference that makes. Fingers crossed, it'll lead to weight loss that I can maintain.
I've heard of those. I take those HRI water tablets that you can buy in supermarkets because of a dodgy swollen foot. I have complex regional pain syndrome but without the pain. I'm one of the strange ones, I have the other symptoms but without any pain so I'm lucky. The water tablets keep the foot swelling down but I don't take them for weight purposes. Not sure about the dandelion ones but I have heard of them.
