Ellest Solo to Premarin

Hi, I've been on Ellest Solo for about 6 years now following TAH BSO and never stopped suffering from stiffness and aches feeling like 100 instead of 51. Just had full works blood test results back and all ok so Dr put me on the subjugated oestrogens from female horses- better known as Premarin.

Wondered if anyone else had swapped over for similar reasons and if there was any benefit?

No benefit for the horses. It's extremely cruel.

My personal preference would be estradiol. The conjugated estrogen product (Premarin) that was used in the Women's Health Initiative (WHI) study was connected with an increase in cases of breast cancer, stroke, and heart attacks compared with controls.

Not sure that any type of estrogen is the usual treatment for stiffness and aches. Have you been tested for hypothyroidism? Other conditions such as lupus or arthritis?

Hi Thanks - The Dr did full blood test so I presume that included checking for hypothyroidism and results came back ok. No she hasn't yet checked for arthritis. I think it is more muscular than joint related- bit of a mix perhaps.

Hi Houndy, do not presume the Dr requested tests for anything, go ask for a copy of the results. Regarding arthritis, you don't need a blood test for that, how do your joints feel? The doc doesn't tell you if you have arthritis, YOU tell HIM/HER.

I read about arthritis but never sure if I have it. The best way I can explain it is that I am too stiff, knees don't bend as they should, I walk too slowly and wake up sometimes feeling like a lump of lead and have to shake myself loose. I dis plenty of yoga so fairly flexible, overweight and out of practice. Nothing is swollen or appears inflamed although I take regular ibuprofen for inflammation .

Have you tried glucosamine chondroitin? I find the liquid form very effective for my arthritis. It is also said that riding a bike can keep your knee joints flexible. You might want to request an X-Ray (maybe even an MRI) of the joints that are giving you the problems so see if you still have adequate cartilage within them.

I’ve been using glucosamine and chondroitin for years for my knees. By all accounts from doctors, I shouldn’t be walking and should have already had two knee replacements. Thankfully I discovered GC myself and am walking very well without medical intervention. Glad it works for you too, LAHS.
