So why do patients want access to online medical records -blog

I have posted a few times on patient’s poor access to online GP medical records. I have a couple of reasons for campaigning on this. I still have no access to my online free text and historical documents. I wanted to trace my hypothyroid history over the last fifteen years to see any patterns etc. However this was not my biggest problem as my son had more need as I have described in this blog. If you wonder where your records are and why you can’t see them have a read of this you might spot something similar. The culture and systems have to change.

Very interesting and also sad blog, DJR1.

I was aware that health records were a quagmire but wasn't aware of what was going on behind the scenes - or wasn't aware of how bad things were behind the scenes. To deny people access without saying that there is nothing to access because nobody has created an electronic record is rank dishonesty.

All the best in your fight. I have limited access. One of the records that I can’t see refers to chicken pox, I’ve never had this in this country. How much other incorrect data is floating around.

After everything you have had to deal with with regards to your sons health this is one fight that really should never have been needed to fight had due diligence been applied. You strength and determination clearly stem from both love, but also a desire to fight for whats right even beyond your own family.

I am personally disgusted by the lack of tranparency, continuity and empathy, although Im not surprised. For too long imo health professionals have used our clinical records as a noose and even now, it is clear the system isn't up to par (I too am struggling to find any data about ME beyond December 2017 (accept for a log about allergies back in 1994). Good luck with your fight. You are clearly chipping away at the system and perhaps more of us should join this fight.
