Help. Confused.

I have been diagnosed with hypothyroidism now for 6 years. I am currently on 150mg levothyroxine which is the highest I've been on and following recent blood test they want to reduce my dose to 125. The fact is the blood results days confuse the hell out of me. My recent results were serum t4 12.2 and serum tsh 0.36. I want advice really. I have really never felt much better whatever they put me on. It's so depressing. The doctors just look at the numbers and sometimes I don't have any confidence they know any more than me. To compound issues i am anaemic which obviously isn't helping. Worried this my be confusing matters. Is there anyone out there who can advise me. I see gp in 2 weeks. What should I ask/expect from them. Fed up of feeling so slow and foggy.

I take it that FT4 is bottom of the range, yes? But, they want to reduce your dose because the TSH is - in their uneducated opinion - too low. You're right, they don't know much more than you. Probably less. They should not be dosing by the TSH.

What you need is full thyroid testing - which you won't get from the NHS!

TPO antibodies

Tg antibodies

vit d

vit B12

folate

ferritin

That will give you a much clearer idea of your thyroid status. My guess is that you either have an absorption problem or a conversion problem - or both! But, you can't know just testing the TSH and FT4 - especially if they only look at the TSH.
