Adrenal question

I was at my naturopath today and she has upped my NDT from 30 to 45 and I’m to do it slowly. It isn’t cheap to go to her but it feels so darn good to actually be listened to and not being made to feel that you are a hypochondriac. Another good thing is if this doesn’t work out, she can and will up my Synthroid dose which my GP refuses to do.

My (daily) question is what do you out there think about me having my adrenals tested? It costs 130 British pounds so not cheap but if it helps it’s worth it. After all the stress I’ve had in the last five years (breast cancer, bad anxiety and more) I’m sure they are pretty low or whatever they get.

Do they test for cortisol? I’m not even sure what it is. I need to Google it I guess.

Thanks.

You can read about the role of the adrenal glands here

endocrineweb.com/endocrinol...

If you are considering testing then make sure you do one that tests both cortisol and DHEA not just cortisol alone. Genova Diagnostics do this, also Regenerus Laboratories but I don't know what's available to you in Canada.

Thanks. Will do. I’ve decided to get the test just to rule it out. After the stress I’ve gone through in the last five years I won’t be surprised to hear I am low or whatever is bad.

As so many if you know, it gets very expensive to have all the private stuff done and of course my naturopath visits but I said to my husband that it’s just that much less divided by two that our two kids inherit lol. I’ve decided to spend what it takes. This just existing is no fun at all!

You could try ZRT Labs they're in Oregon (I think) and do adrenal testing. I'm not sure if they're available to anyone in Canada.

No worries about getting the test. My naturopath can do it. Thanks.

Do you have symptoms such as low blood sugar, fainting? Are you responding to the NDT? You can get saliva test done, more accurate than blood.

Thanks for answering. I’ve never fainted in my life but I do feel that my blood sugar gets low. Always has. I don’t know if I’m responding to the NDT. Not sure what you mean. I’m paying to have the saliva test just to rule it out. My friends stepdaughter died last year suddenly because she had no corisol and it wasn’t diagnosed in time. She died suddenly. Only 45 with three kids under five. So sad and scary.

How awful that a mother can die like that. We had somebody on here a couple of weeks ago who had been admitted te4 hospital about 5 times, become unconscious for days on end, hypoglciemic , vomiting, fainting just kept being discharged with no treatment. But no test for addisons done. Doctors get it into their head that things are rare so dont diagnose but then things of course will be rare.
