Jan2019 test

Vitamins

Vitamin D 18nmol

This is classed as deficient and requires LOADING dose prescription from GP

That's 300,000iu of vitamin D over 6-8 weeks. Equivalent of 5000iu per day for 8 weeks or 7000iu per day for 6 weeks

Local CCG guidelines

clinox.info/clinical-suppor...

How much Vitamin D are you currently taking?

GP will only prescribe to bring vitamin D up to 50nmol.

Aiming to improve vitamin D by self supplementing to at least 80nmol and around 100nmol may be better .

Once you Improve level, very likely you will need on going maintenance dose to keep it there.

Retesting twice yearly via vitamindtest.org.uk

Vitamin D mouth spray by Better You is good as avoids poor gut function.

It's trial and error what dose each person needs. Frequently when hypothyroid we need higher dose than average

Government recommends everyone supplement October to April

ferritin 30 (range 20-300)

This is very low.

Eating liver or liver pate once a week, plus other iron rich foods like black pudding, prawns, spinach, pumpkin seeds and dark chocolate, plus daily vitamin C can help improve iron absorption

B12 325 (180-2000)

This is low. Symptoms can occur if result is under 500

Folate 3.7 (2.8-20)

This is also low

B12 and folate are both low. Supplementing a good quality daily vitamin B complex, one with folate in not folic acid may be beneficial.

B vitamins best taken in the morning after breakfast

Recommended brands on here are Igennus Super B complex. (Often only need one tablet per day, not two. Certainly only start with one tablet per day after breakfast. Retesting levels in 6-8 weeks ).

Or Jarrow B-right is popular choice, but is large capsule

If you are taking vitamin B complex, or any supplements containing biotin, remember to stop these 7 days before any blood tests, as biotin can falsely affect test results

High cholesterol is linked to being under treated and still being hypothyroid

nhs.uk/conditions/statins/c...

If you have an underactive thyroid (hypothyroidism), treatment may be delayed until this problem is treated. This is because having an underactive thyroid can lead to an increased cholesterol level, and treating hypothyroidism may cause your cholesterol level to decrease, without the need for statins. Statins are also more likely to cause muscle damage in people with an underactive thyroid.

Thyroid results

Just testing TSH and FT4 is inadequate

You need TSH, FT4 and FT3 tested, plus both TPO and TG thyroid antibodies.

You will very likely need to do so privately

Last test shows you need dose increase in Levothyroxine but GP only looking at low TSH

Results from May 2019

FT4 13 (range 9-20)

This is too low FT4 should be in top third of range

Low vitamins need improving as priority

Getting full Thyroid testing

Low FT3 is associated with resistant depression

Consultant psychiatrist can prescribe T3

High thyroid antibodies associated with bi-polar and depression
