Below is a copied question from a person on this site 5 yrs ago. The only other info on this is a cyst. And that is not what it is. I’d be very interested to know if anyone knows. I copied the post as they describe it perfect. It’s only been about a month or so since I noticed it when sitting down. Like my butt got bones and I had to adjust.
Thanks in advance!
I am really worried about this.....I have what I think is a hard bony lump on my tail bone but it could actually be my tailbone, I'm not sure, just that I can feel it under my skin and when I sit I have this kind of ache around there. Of course I googled it and came up with all sorts of worrying things, I've had it for around 6 months now, it's no worse/bigger or pain wise, it's just there and on my mind all the time.
Scared to go to GP as I don't want a rectal examination and I have a huge phobia around hospitals, just wondered if anyone else has this kind of bony protrusion or should I be really worried?

I do so understand about the worry of having something amiss in what we consider a rather private area of our body.
I had a cyst on my bottom and plucked up the courage and saw the doctor as it ached a bit like yours when I sat down. It literally took him less than 10 seconds to announce that he would refer me to dermatology to have it removed "to be on the safe side" as it was probably a cyst which had got a bit infected and they would send it to the lab to be checked out.
Off I toddled to see the dermatologist who with a nurse present, gave me a local anaesthetic and it was excised in around five minutes. They were very kind and put me at ease despite me feeling a little undignified and we all chatted away about all sorts.
Might be a good idea to check it out just in case it develops into something and really starts to cause you pain, like not being able to sit down at all.
I know it sounds easy to say it but the doctors really do see it all and don't bat an eyelid, it just seems awful and embarrassing for us. It just seems that it is on your mind all the time and spoiling your life. Some people find it easier to see a doctor of the same sex for these type of consultations and if you are really upset could have a nurse "chaperone" maybe?
