Advice please on latest results

Since my last test in January when my TSH was over 6 I have increased my NDT dose and am feeling so much better. Although my ferritin and CRP levels are very high they have decreased and I have managed to improve my vitamin levels and particularly my vitamin D.

Could you advise on my thyroid hormone results please - is my low TSH OK if I feel well? I have none of the symptoms of overdose that I had with levothyroxine such as insomnia, restlessness and palpitations.

Also I am a bit concerned that my thyroglobulin antibodies have increased. Is there any way to control this?

Thank you in advance for any help, I have learned so much from this forum and feel better than I have for a long time.

Your thyroid results are typical when taking NDT, ie low or suppressed TSH, lowish FT4 and FT3 in the upper part of the range. If that's where you feel well then there is no need to change your dose.

Antibodies fluctuate. Some people find a gluten free diet can help but there is no guarantee. Supplementing with selenium l-selenomethionine 200mcg daily may reduce antibodies.

Thank you SeasideSusie, that gives me confidence to continue on my current dose as I do feel well.

I think confidence in what I’m doing is a real issue as GPs are so emphatic about being within the acceptable range, that they tend to ignore symptoms. On Levothyroxine I clearly had hyperthyroid symptoms of anxiety and constant palpitations and yet my TSH was normal at 1.5. They stopped the palpitations by prescribing a beta blocker, which made me feel lethargic and have little exercise tolerance.

I now have a very low TSH but have no symptoms and have gradually weaned myself off the beta blocker with no return of palpitations.

However I’m really not looking forward to having to discuss this with my GP. I very much doubt she would give me a private prescription for NDT, and I’m sure she will disapprove of me buying drugs on the internet. It is strange that patients are encouraged to self manage a lot of chronic medical conditions, and yet with thyroid conditions we should accept medical management to a range of numbers!

Thanks for your help- am working on being gluten free and will add a few Brazil nuts daily to boost selenium.
