Hi all, I'm looking for tips or advice. Having reached the end of the line with the NHS regarding getting to see an endo I have bitten the bullet and gone private. Fantastic endo! Identified I'm undertreated and hypo despite 'normal' blood levels. He's given me a private prescription for 6 months liothyronine (25mcg) and suggested I buy from France. I've rung one pharmacy (well a friend has for me) as I happen to be visiting at the end of next week and they said to send a copy of the prescription via email which I did but now they're saying it's just an explanation and not a proper prescription. They're not responding now so I've given up.
My question is what are people's experiences of obtaining cynomel in France via a UK private prescription? Is it patchy, okay or difficult? And if anyone can recommend either a pharmacy in Brittany that is likely to be helpful or know one that may fill a private UK prescription online I'd be super grateful if you could private message me. Long shot I know!
Thanks folks.

I live in France and take T3. It is around 5 euros a box of 30. I get mine prescribed in France. You may need to try a few pharmacies as in my experience it is not widely used here so they don’t have in stock. They order mine every month as l am the only customer in the area. X
Thanks for your two messages. Really helpful. Your mention of possibly needing a prescription from a French Dr led me to check. It looks like they should accept any EU prescription but sounds like some may be funny about it as I had already experienced from the pharmacy I tried. I found this which now means I have back up for my request so I'm glad you mentioned europa.eu/youreurope/citize...
When travelling in Europe I visit as many pharmacies as I can find and ask for T3. I do not have a prescription. I take a packet with me to show them as many do not know about it and offer me levothyroxine instead. I have been successful a couple of times, which given the price differentials is a big saving. Sometimes a pharmacy will offer to order some but if we are in a town only for one day this doesn’t work for me.
I have done similar and been lucky. Once in France I went in the pharmacy late afternoon and they ordered it in for me for first thing the following morning.
I have never had a problem getting t3 in france (normandy) with or without prescription. I get 9 boxs 30x25mcg at a time 32 euros, they have to order it in next day as usually only one box in stock. Mine has now been reinstated on nhs. I also recently got 2 boxs of 10mg hydra cortisone tablets without prescription as my cortisol very low 105 (150-550) uk endo will not prescribe since oct 2017.
That's helpful, thanks endomad. Glad you've had your T3 reinstated! Sucks about the cortisol.
When I lived in France I was able to buy T3 without a prescription for around 3 euros per box. if you visit in the morning they will order it in for the same day, many do not keep it in stock. What quantity is written on your prescription.
Anyway you can order Cytomel online without a prescription if it's easier for you. It could save you money.
Hi, I would also be very grateful for any info regarding T3 online or even NDT. Extremely difficult to get prescribed here in Ireland. Thanks in advance
In which city in France were you able to get it w/o a prescription? Just curious. I can’t speak French but I am up to paying a French endocrinologist that can speak English and prescribe T3 for me, if anyone knows any
I saw that even online consultations are now forbidden due to the Covid-19 crisis. I am considering traveling to France to get a consultation + the T3 medication once the crisis is over. But of course, it would be much cheaper to get the T3 online, or to just get an online consultation with an endocrinologist.
Hi, I have the same problem and I am also looking for alternatives. I see there are pharmacies in Germany that also sells Sanofi liothyronine but only in 20 mcg tablets. More expensive than I could get in France. Anyone using the German medicine?
