T3 from USA stuck at customs

I was recommended which USA pharmacy to use from members on this forum. My T3 (costing £150 inc tracking) got straight through customs in London. Now it has been caught up at Coventry customs for a few days, I am concerned.

I know it is legal for me to import for myself but I have read online how I may have to pay extra VAT on it. I had not heard this until after I ordered. Could this be true?

Now my T3 from my endo has run out and I can't get more, I was heavily relying on it arriving in the post.

Please, does anyone out there have experience of this to reassure me of what should happen next?

Thank you so very much.

Any items imported to the UK from outside the EU attracts VAT and a handling fee from Royal Mail or courier, if the total is more than £15 (the postage cost is included in the £15)

Whilst we are still in the EU, anything imported from an EU country does not attract these charges.

emmakathryn,

Custom charges are applied to imports into the EU with a value over £15.00 with 20% VAT.

Occasionally something manages to sneak through but your £150.00 items should attract import duty. Royal mail will then charge an £8.00 handling fee.

OK then. So the highest likelihood is that I need to pay these charges. How long should the whole process take before I receive my medication?

And thank for the 2 clear answers that I have received.

Whoever is delivering it should contact you to pay the fee, so it's down to when Customs release it to Royal Mail or whoever, and I don't know how long that normally takes.

The link I gave above explains

Tax and duty

You’ll be contacted by Royal Mail, Parcelforce or the courier company explaining how to pay any VAT, duty and fees for dealing with customs.

They’ll normally hold your parcel for about 3 weeks. If you haven’t paid the fee by then, it’ll be sent back.

Nice thought, but if I could get more from the NHS I wouldn't be shelling out £150!!

Thank anyway!

No need to delete your post. It can stay in place to help others. I will close it now for you though so that no-one else can answer it.
