NDT stuck in customs. HELP!

Ive ordered a consignment of Natural Dessicated Thyroid from the USA. With my parcel remaining in ITALIAN customs fora fortnight already, I have now received a registered letter with 4 forms to fill in. Two of these require an official letter from my (unsympathetic) family doctor. I have been in touch with my NDT supplier, who has reiterated to me that NDT is NOT a medicine, but a "food supplement". I am planning on "self-medicating"(self-food-supplementing)...

Can anyone give me some advice on how to get my consignment released from customs? Do I return the forms arguing that NDT is not a drug or medicine? Find an alternative-medicine practicioner who is qualified to sign a telease form (I can't see how to find such a person in ITALY?

I will try my Family Doctor, but ,as my TSH parameters were "within range" (3.25), he insists that my thyroid is working perfectly well. HELP!

Really sorry as I can't help you - no experience to date with but...oh my goodness...what a nightmare for you!

I too have ordered NDT via Amazon Canada and am waiting for its arrival, due between 1st August and 13th August. I haven't heard anything from the post office or Customs. I will be interested to hear from you what happens to your consignment? I hope someone else is able to shed light on this issue for you. Good luck - Shon D

Thyroid Gold. I have written to Tammy and she has reiterated that it is not an FDA drug, but a food supplement. I don't know what to do with these medical release forms that the Italian customs have sent me... Presumably they are requiring me to fill these in and provide professional (sic!) authorisations before they release my NDT...

I visited my GP this morning: he told me in his own words that "Tiroide Seccato" is not a drug, but a food supplement and that is not within his domain. He said that it would be like importing a leg of parma-ham, or any other animal product; customs will not let it pass and that I should request a refund from my supplier... ...

I've been feeling more washed out in recent days and am eager to try the NDT out... I'm hopeful that (with my own careful dosing and logging of basal temperature and heart-rate) that NDT will get me back to health...

ThyroGold is sold as a food supplement in the USA to get around FDA pharmaceutical regulations. Why don't you complete the forms stating ThyroGold is a food supplement and your GP has declined to complete a medical release for a food supplement.

I doubt you will get a refund if you can't persuade Italian customs that ThyroGold is a food supplement as it is up to customers to check that they are permitted to import the supplements or drugs they order.

Thanks for your advice. I am not sure whether I am permitted to import NDT into Italy or not. There doesn't seem to be much info available about NDT and Italy when I do a google search.

There must be an Italian customs website where you can check. Bear in mind that the acronym NDT is unlikely to be widely used outside of thyroid fora so you may have to use another search term.

As far as I know, Thyroid Gold is not even considered NDT strictly speaking, as it's sold as a food supplement...is there any way you can point that out in the forms? As far as I recall, there used to be a statement to that effect on Tammy Lowe's website...could you print that out and attach it to the forms, and send it all to customs? After all, you have ordered a product sold as a food supplement and, as far as I know, that is perfectly legal.

Could you attach that to the forms?

It does not say anywhere that this product is intended to treat or cure any disease, which means it does not require a prescription in the US. Given the list of ingredients, I don't see why Italian customs should not release the package to you.
