Feeling Great But Gaining Weight 2.0

Hi,

I’m carrying on from this post below:

healthunlocked.com/thyroidu...

I went and did blood tests and FT3 and FT4 are lower than before but my TSH is almost non existent. We came to the conclusion that I must be over medicated due to the weight gain, despite feeling relatively healthy. However judging by the FT3 abc FT4, it doesn’t seem as if I am.

What do you think?

I would say your T3 is a bit low. Have you had tests for TPO and Tg Ab antibodies? I always ignore TSH if it is low!

Yes. The last time I tested it, my antibodies were normal or low. So I never tested them again.

I understand that maybe I tested when it was low and not during a flare up so next time I will test for them.

Weight gain is a not a sign of OVER-medicated hypothyroidism. Weight gain is a sign of being UNDER-medicated, which allows the signs and symptoms of hypothyroidism to flourish. To be optimized, your FT3 needs to be in the upper quadrant. That would be in the neighborhood of 5.8 pmol/L according to my calculations.

When medication includes T3 (whether in the form of Cytomel or in Natural Desiccated Thyroid), the TSH cannot be relied upon to determine dosage. TSH is a pituitary hormone that usually goes down in response to having sufficient thyroid hormones circulating.
