I am buying extra TR Mann NDT,while stocks last,as its gone out of production.I have been storing my NDT in the bottom(least cool)part of my fridge.

is this a good idea,or is there a better place for long-term storage(unopened)

I’d check the temperature in different parts of your fridge - the coldest part of ours is at the bottom. Is there any advice on packaging? I keep NDT at room temperature but T3 in fridge

If you are storing any medicine in a cooled environment (fridge or freezer), it is essential that you pack it 100% air-tight.

The biggest single problem is condensation forming either within the refrigerator or when you take it out for use.

The second biggest problem is that in very cold conditions, the medicine can change significantly. For example, if frozen, you might see some of the moisture content coming out of the tablets and depositing on the inside of the packaging. Whether this affects the medicine will depend on the specific product.

Most refrigerators are coldest at the bottom. However, if it has an ice compartment, it could be colder very close to that.

My fridge does not have an ice-box & I have always been very careful to pack air-tight,using dessicant sachets outside the actual wrapping. However,my NDT is now in a cool dark room,in a cool dark cupboard!I got it wrong about the warmest part of the fridge, too!

I would never store any thyroid tablets in the fridge because of the condensation risk mentioned by helvella, and because it's not necessary. Storing them normally in dry cool dark conditions is all that's necessary. The FDA carried out research into the longterm viability of some of the multi $$ million stocks of meds carried by the US military and found that many were still as potent after 15 years (and were likely to continue to be, long after that, but the testing stopped at 15 years). The meds were simply stored unopened in their original containers/packaging, and were not refrigerated.

Instructions on MP T3 - do not store above 25 degrees. Only way of guaranteeing that in my house, all year round, is in the fridge. Never had any problems with condensation even with occasional already opened pots.

NDT instructions - store at 15 - 30 degrees. I don’t put these in the fridge.

I think that the wording is not clear.

From what I have read, the term "store" applies to months and years. If your current prescription sometimes goes a little out of range, it isn't likely to be much of a problem. (This might not be true of all medicines.)

There should be storage instructions on the leaflet that comes with the NDT.

I use NP Thyroid, for which the information sheet says "Store in a tight container protected from light and moisture. Store between 15°-30°C (59°-86°F)". I keep the container on the top shelf of the wardrobe in the master bedroom (useful as I take NDT just as going to bed).
