The Secrets Behind The Heart-Brain Connection
Emily Fletcher, the leading expert in using meditation for high performance, leads us through her 2X breathing technique. This easy practice helps de-excite your nervous system and is great for keeping anxiety and stress at bay.
Use a simple community-building exercise to help build your dream “tribe” based on your values, interests, and abilities (I consider community the best way to manage stress, improve your sense of belonging, and build a super brain).
Better understand the crucial nature of the heart-brain connection by examining AFib (atrial fibrillation), a condition called broken heart syndrome and the relationship between heart attack deaths and depression.
Discover simple tips to increase your BDNF (this brain-derived protein is like miracle-grow for your brain. It not only helps grow new neurons but also fends off Alzheimer’s and helps heal depression).
See why heart rate variability is an important indicator of overall health (Dr. Rollin McCraty of HeartMath will take us through a simple technique that you can do anytime at home to relieve anxiety and help get you into the parasympathetic state) …
I know — this sounds like a lot. That’s because our experts are over-delivering with all the valuable information they’re so generously sharing with you in these episodes.
Wishing you health and happiness,
Mark Hyman, MD
Thanks Heloise, fascinating and useful tips. I agree about community although it is a weak point for me and one I need to work on (never have had enough of a support system, for a variety of reasons). This community is important and much valued and I am grateful for that. Best wishes to you and yours, Julie
I agree, Julie. We need to fit in somewhere. I just watched a documentary by Dr. Gupta in the U.S. on stress which brought out the same. We would not stay grief stricken or hopeless with enough support.
I'm also thinking about all the people in prison whose brains have been compromised because of stress and caused them to do what they did.
I'm glad you don't ONLY read books
We learn high cortisol shrinks the brain, reshapes the brain, stiffens the myelin that coats the cells. Meditation practices help to shrink the amygdala which activates with stress and thickens the prefrontal cortex which handles the stress, increases the volume of the hippocampus, inner chatter is reduced.
There is so many processes in the brain that are understood now and there are methods for you to control them.
We've heard the term "heart math" much more these days. It's a very good indicator about your health. It is not your pulse that is measured but the difference between each beat and a variation is good. This is where meditation can help. Just like the brain has plasticity so does your heart.
Did anyone watch Episode 4 of Broken Brain 2? I missed the discussion before the episode expired on community building practices. Could someone please share if you remember what was discussed? Thank you very much.
Hi - not sure if you meant to respond to someone else with your comment above?
Heloise thank you so much for sharing these excellent videos.
Thank you, kiss, I'm trying to take notes so I can remember to take certain actions. I hope this helps you and others with such valuable information.
Please could you share the notes here. I took some random notes but often found it difficult to decipher what was being said.
Thank you Heloise
I'm glad they have the footnotes as they talk. I wish I had time to jot down everything but here are a few I made from the other thread.
