Experiment to find the best time to suit you, that's all you can do. We're all different. Some take it all in one dose in the morning, some split the dose as they find they have a "slump" later in the day if they take it in one dose, some take it at bedtime.
Hi susie.
The anxiety is destroying my life a the mo.
I am on 175mcg. Would it be ok to say take 100 tonight instead
Just so I can have an ok day tomorrow?
I'm sorry Paul, I can't answer your question with any degree of accuracy other than to say you could try it and see how you get on. Anxiety is not something that I have suffered from (thankfully) so I have no personal experience to pass on.
Paul. The half-life elimination of levothyroxine (T4)from our bodies can be anywhere from 6-10 days depending on many factors including how our own individual bodies process the med so skipping a dose tonight will not help you tomorrow.
Also thyroid medicine is not a medication you should usually change on your own if you are prescribed them by your doctor.
If it were me I would contact your doctor and tell him about how you feel and let him prescribe what you should do about your dose. Try to reach someone asap so you can begin to feel better. Because of this half-life length this is unfortunately not a med you can stop today and feel better tomorrow.
Please call your doctor. I hope you feel better soon. Sometimes it takes a while to feel better with hypothyroidism. There is often a lot of trial and error involved in reaching our optimum doses.
Take care. irina
Hey there Paul
It's impossible to give you accurate dosage advise, as we are all different, so the answer is very much a question of trial and error.
I think your T4 needs to come down, and this is generally undertaken in 25 mcg stages.
T3 is much stronger than T4 - people suggesting anything between 3 to 5 times stronger,
depending on the persons ability to convert.
So, that would mean your 10 T3 equates to dropping approximately 30 - 50 T4.
I do not take T3 in this way - I am on Natural Desiccated Thyroid with a fixed ratio 1/4 :
Each tablet containing amongst other things a T4 of 38 mcg and a T3 of 9 mcg.
I'm sorry I can't help you further -
Hi thanks.
That worries me.
His plan is I take 150mcg of levo and 10 of T3
Is that T4 amount too much?
It's difficult to say -
The endo has your most current blood tests, I think I'd go with his suggestion.
I know you have had to fight your corner on all this, and probably don't have much time for the medic, but in reality, he has your results and has plotted your progress.
I know I write that a fully functioning working thyroid supports you on a daily basis with approximately 100 T4 + 10 T3 but again, this is an approximation and probably more like a starting point from which to dose up.
There are very many people with thyroids, who are taking substantially more than the dose quoted above, it's just a guide, and possibly a conservative one.
It's all about fine tuning both T3 and T4 hormones into balance and generally that means up into the upper quadrants of their relevant ranges.
It's about one's ability to convert T4 to T3 and there are many reasons why one's conversion maybe be compromised.
Hopefully 10 T3 will be enough to give you some relief of some symptoms.
If not the endo has the power to titrate both hormones up and down accordingly.
The good news is that you now have a prescription for T3, all that remains is to find
a dose of both T3 and T4 that works for you, and you'll need to work with this medic
on dose adjustments during this trial stage.
Hi Paul. I dropped 25 and added 10t3 but it was too much so added alternate 25 back in and my t4 was high in range and t3 just over half but it took me 4 months to get there. It’s a case of try it and see. Get bloods done and see what they look like and tweek from there to get the right level for you. Xx
Do u have a thyroid?
Nope. Removed 3yrs ago. Still fighting for my endo to see the t3 light!!
I had a great fight with my endo and won. Only took 4 weeks of grief by phone and email
Don’t stand for it. I served in navy for years and did my service. They will give me what I need!!!
Paul have you taken any of the T3 yet? Once you start taking T3 then results are read differently so you cannot then see whether you are converting or not so you should address the problem first.
To do that you need to get Vit D, Vit B, floated and ferritin tested. If you are t converting well then one or more may not be optimal and you need to address that first. I did the same and it worked and fully reversed mine but you may have at add in a little T3 if you can't get there.
I'm assuming at the moment that on FT only your FT4 is high in its range and FT3 very low? 0nce you add in any form of T3 then only the FT3 reading is accurate and the FT4 reading can drop so you lose the ability to compare the two.
